'Get up, oh my god, Mandy.' I heard my mom say.

'No. Don't want to go to school.' I mumbled.

'Cmon, Ashton is gonna be here any minute.'

'Fine.' I groaned and got up to go to the bathroom.

After washing my face and teeth, I left the bathroom and checked my phone. It was still 6:30. Ashton wasn't going to be here for another 20 minutes. I groaned some more because I could have slept for another ten minutes. It doesn't normally take me more than 5 minutes to get ready anyway. I used the extra time I had to go through my dark brown hair with a straightener. When it was straightened to my liking I put myself in a grey halter top and a black skater skirt. I wore my favorite black and white knit cardigan to keep me warm and put on my black converse. I put on concealer, eyeliner, mascara and lip balm. I left my room, grabbing my favorite gold crescent necklace.

'Why so dark?' My dad asked as soon as I entered the kitchen.

'To make sure everyone at school knows I hate them.' I answered with mock cheerfulness and grabbed a mug to make my coffee.

'Oh. Yeah, I think that will send the message.' Mom chuckled.

I smiled slightly at them and went back to make my coffee. I grabbed my book bag and put my earphones and gum into it.

A few minutes later I heard a car honk. I put down my half finished coffee mug, grabbed my bag and walked to the door.

'Bye.' I waved at my parents.

'Bye, sweetie. Have a good day. Try not to kill anyone.' Dad called.

'No promises.' I smiled and walked out the door.

'Hey.' I said, getting into Ashton's grey 1987 Citroen.

'Hey. You look hot.' He said, eyeing me and smirking. I rolled my eyes at the curly haired boy as he drove past my driveway.

Me and Ashton have been best friends for a few years now. Only recently we became friends with benefits. After I broke up with my ex boyfriend five months ago, I needed someone to be there for me, and not only was Ashton there for me emotionally, he was there for me physically too. We were still best friends. Who occasionally slept together. we didn't have sex all the time, just every now and then. Or whenever anyone of us needed a quick fix. No one knew about it. Our other friends Michael and Calum think we have a thing for each other but that's not the case at all.

'You do realize wearing dark clothes isn't going to help you live down your reputation as a nerd,' Ashton smirked and glanced at me. 'Not that it doesn't turn me on.' He said, putting a hand on my thigh.

I rolled my eyes.

'Maybe. But maybe gradually people will start to realize that I'm not who they think I am.'

Everyone at school thinks that I am a nerd just because I got the highest grade in maths. I don't understand why people can't be smart and still be classified as 'popular' or 'cool'. Not that I cared about that stuff, but it just annoyed me. So I decided to stop being afraid of expressing who I am. I used to be afraid of dressing the way I want to because I was didn't want people judging me and thinking I was trying to be goth or whatever. Truth be told, I just like wearing dark clothes because they make me feel comfortable. It's hard to explain but that's just the way it's always been with me.

'Maybe.' Ash smiled warmly. It was time like these that I knew that me and Ash really were still best friends and that he wasn't just using me.

'My parents are going to be out for the night, I was wondering if you'd wanna stop by?'

'Yeah, sounds good.' He smirked, his usual mischievous attitude returning.

A few minutes later we arrived at the schools parking. There was a small secluded area for seniors so Ash parked at the spot closest to the door so that we wouldn't have to walk.

I got out of the car and noticed Ashton smirking at me.

'What?' I asked. He walked over to me and grabbed my butt when he was sure that no one was watching.

'You look hot as hell in that skirt. Can't wait to take it off you later.'

'Are you always horny?' I shoved him slightly.

'With you around? Yeah.' He winked.

I brushed him off as we walked into the gates of hell.

The bell rang just as I got to my locker. I grabbed my History book and slammed my locker door, bumping into Calum on my way to class.

'Hey, Mandy.' Calum chuckled.

'Hey, sorry.' I smiled.

'Its fine. Let's go before we're late.' Cal said and dragged me to our History class.

'Why are you late?' Asked Mr. Merrick as soon as we walked in.

'Why are you early?' Replied Calum, which earned him a few soft chuckles.

'Its not time for your jokes, Calum.'

'C'mon sir, just let it pass this time.' I asked sweetly.

'Anything for you, Mandy.' He smirked and gestured to our seats at the side of the class. I smiled at him and followed Calum to our seat, feeling Mr. Merrick's gaze burn into my back.

After a few minutes, while I was answering the questions that Mr. Merrick assigned to us I felt someone looking my way. I looked to the left and it was Luke Hemmings. I looked away immediately and then looked back a few seconds later. He was still staring at me coldly. This time I decided not to look away. I tried to match his hard glare with one of my own. After a few seconds he smirked and looked away. I looked back at my copybook, confused.

'Uh, Mandy?' I heard Calum say from behind me.

'Yeah?' I craned my neck towards him.

'Why were you have a staring competition with Hemmings?'

'I don't know.' I said and turned back around.
