Chapter 7

After the whole Hunter incident which involved a very scary phone call and Ari being darted with anaesthetic, Elisa decided, along with the rest of the witches, that the rescue mission had to happen very soon. Shane discreetly drove his car around to the old science block so that he could lay Ari in the back seat. He plucked her from the ground and held her as if she was as light as a feather and carried her over to the car. Elisa couldn’t help but notice the way Shane gently laid her on the seat, took of his jacket to act as a pillow for her head and stroked her cheek with a light touch. Then he kissed her. On the lips. It wasn’t even a quick peck; it was full on and lasted for almost 20 seconds and this make something angry bubble up deep inside Elisa.

Caleb cleared his throat then her spoke,” Dude, not cool. I know Ari is pretty annoying sometimes, but she’s completely out, no need for the lip massage. I know you had a thing a while ago, but I’m sure she really doesn’t like you anymore.”

Shane grinned at him, “Oh I know, I just wanted to see if the sleeping beauty thing was real, you never know. Anyway guys what’s the plan?”

He didn’t wait for the answer and instead started checking his hair in the car wing mirror. It was clear that the boy Elisa had met at the hospital was long gone. The boy that had cried when he heard his parents and sister were dead, the boy that thanked her for saving him and the boy that had romantically kissed her had completely disappeared. That boy was replaced with an arrogant, inappropriate player. But Elisa found herself still attracted to him, she still wanted him, she wanted Shane. She also wanted Michael, his brother and that was where things got confusing. Then she started to think about Jacob, the boy she had fell in love with then lost, he was the love of her life but now he was gone and she had to move on and if that meant getting a new boyfriend then that’s what she had to do. Her thoughts were interrupted when three people appeared in front of her. Kayla and two others.

Kayla spoke, “Hey Elisa, this is Zach”, she gestured to a marble pale, muscular, black haired boy with unusually bright eyes,” and this is Tyler,” she said, looking at an even larger, tanned skinned and green eyed boy. The boys that had nearly killed her just over a week ago. Zach nodded at her and smiled and Tyler grinned and winked then held out his hand.

“Tyler Danvers, pleasure to meet you. I must say for someone that I knocked over and put in hospital in a coma just over a week ago, which I am very sorry for just so you know, you are looking remarkably sexy.”

Shane shot Tyler a look that was so venomous, Elisa felt uncomfortable and had to look away. There was clearly history between the two and by Tyler calling her ‘sexy’, the dispute had clearly been brought to the surface again.

Elisa shook the outstretched hand, and then kept hold of it, “Elisa Roosevelt and I must say this it is not so nice to be meeting you. Thankyou for nearly killing me last week.” Tyler tried to pull his hand away but found he couldn’t. The handshake brought back memories that she wished she would never think about again. She squeezed and Tyler fell to his knees, unable to breathe. She couldn’t stop, she could just see the face of the hunter in her mind and she wanted to hurt him, badly. She could see Shane looking at her, but not stopping her. She could see Anna with her hands covering her mouth and she could see Caleb, too concerned about Cassie to even bother to react.  Then she felt someone touch her arm, and she released her grip on Tyler’s hand. She mumbled a ‘sorry’ as Tyler got to his feet and he just said, “Now we’re even, I like it that way” and grinned.

Michael spoke, “Now that we’re all here, I need to explain the plan. I know where they are keeping Cassie, Ari had some sort of device tracking thing on her phone, which is just weird but useful. Anyway, it’s the old lake house, figures. Surrounded by woods so nobody can see what’s going on in there, quick escape by boat if they need to, perfect location to keep a kidnapped witch. I say we let Anna, Kayla and Zach stay in the woods in case they try and run or we need back up. Tyler you need to go and attack the house first and then Shane, Elisa, Caleb and I will follow.

Everybody nodded in agreement and spilled into three different cars. They left together with Michael and Caleb in Elisa’s car, Anna, Kayla and Zach in Ari’s and Tyler and sleeping Ari in Shane’s Volvo. On the way there, Michael drove. Elisa couldn’t help but notice he had beautiful yet manly hands, she was almost mesmerised by them as he tapped them on the steering wheel.

“So...” Michael said without taking his eyes off the road, “when we’ve sorted this out, want to go on a date with me?”

Caleb smothered his laughter into a coughing fit and Elisa found herself deliberating. She really did like Michael; he was hot, mature and beautiful inside as well as on the outside. But there was also a problem. Shane. She hadn’t told Michael about the kiss yet and had been hoping that she didn’t have to. She knew that if she went out with Michael, Shane would be jealous and would end up telling Michael about that night at the hospital and that would end badly for everyone. Instead of giving him an answer, she closed her eyes and pretended she was asleep. She felt eyes on her and knew that Michael was waiting for an answer, he sighed when he realised she was ‘asleep’.

“Man, you do realise that you’re gonna have to ask her that again, when she’s not asleep, I don’t think she heard you. It took me like, 3 months to go from the friends zone to a relationship with Cassie, witchy girls are all strange when it comes to relationships”, Caleb whispered.

Michael just sighed again and carried on driving. Elisa remembered Michael silently touching her hand when they came to a red light, gently so not to wake her. Then she really was asleep, at least for 15 minutes. She only woke up when they arrived at the cabin, or rather the woods that surrounded the cabin. She climbed out of the car and saw that everyone else was already there. Zach held Kayla tightly in his arms, the way that Jacob used to hold her, back in England. It bought back that horrible memory once more and she felt anger like never before, she was ready to face the hunters and beat them. Shane was looking confident, almost cocky but he looked concerned for the very pale looking Anna and had his arm slung carelessly around her. Tyler was breathing deeply, fully preparing to make his transformation into a wolf if need be. Caleb was looking so unlike the boy she had seen before. That kind and compassion in his eyes had been replaced with complete anger, though the love in then for Cassie stayed as strong as before, and Michael...well. Michael looked just like Michael. He always looked concerned, focused, and angelic and there had always been sadness deep inside of him, and there still was, nothing had changed in him.

“Well, I’m not standing here all day, Zach, Kayla, Anna, you guys stay here. Vamps, this is the only time I want you to use your freaky bat ears to listen into our conversation, act if you hear anything that sounds scary. Tyler, you’re up first, let’s hope your pedigree and not just some mutt for the sake of all of us. Elisa, Mikey, Caleb, we go in after the dog, I took the liberty of obtaining some weapons, well when I say weapons I mean guns, and when I say guns I mean well, guns, you get the idea.”, Shane said, making a joke but sounding deadly serious.

Everyone nodded in agreement and started to split off.
