"She took my hand as I ran into the woods. I didn't know where I was going but I knew that it was to be as far away as I could. Her hands trembled when I came to a stop. There was a man in the woods. I saw something in his hands but before I knew what was happening, she was gone, evaporated to nothing except the sweat on my palm. I collapsed to the ground. His face was hidden by the dark shadows of the trees, but I could tell from the way he held his body, I had known him my whole life."
"Axel, wake up."
I rolled to the side of my bed and saw my sister with an annoying smile on her face.
"Are you okay? You smell like you walked through the streets in the towns."
"Yeah, I just had some weird dreams but... what are you doing in my room?"
"It is THE day Axe, they are going to announce who gets to be in the Running."
I forgot that today was the announcement of the Running, or at least I tried to forget it.
"Amelia, get out of my room. Do you think I care about that?"
"Well, you woke up as an asshole, great. Fix your attitude and get ready before dad comes." Her smile disappeared and she opened the door to my closet. "I think this will look good for the announcement." She holds up a dark blue buttoned up shirt with some dark gray dress pants.
"There is no need to dress up, I thought I made it clear that I am not going."
"Shut up, you know he will kill both of us if you bring that attitude to the announcement. Just put it on and I will get someone to help you with your hair." She threw the clothing at me and then left the room.
"Finally..."
I took the shirt and buttoned it up. I slid my legs into the pants and tucked the shirt inside. Then I grabbed a black belt and pulled it through the loops of the pants. A girl who looked about my age walked in with a comb and some products. She pulled the chair from my desk and asked me sit as she fumbled through my morning hair.
"Are you excited to be in the Running?"
"No."
"How did you sleep?"
"Not well."
"Is there any special way you want your hair to be?"
"Please stop asking questions and just do your job."
"Oh....okay" She kept quiet for the rest of thetime.
