7 years ago.10 minutes before Off's birthday.
Advanced happy birthday, Son. Don't forget to go home tomorrow for your birthday celebration. —Mom
Off sighed lazily as he read his mom's message. He didn't wanna go all the hassle of driving 4 hours just to celebrate his birthday, let alone facing his relatives who would just talk about business for hours. He would just again face the nagging of his uncles and aunts about him not taking business administration. Well, his course was still related to their business since their family business was in the entertainment industry but his relatives kept on repeating that he should have taken business ad.
He glanced at the wall clock, and calculated the amount of sleep he'd get if he would wake up at 7, just enough time to prepare and drive home for lunch. But his musings were cut off when he heard a knock on his door. He laughed. Who wouldn't even bother using the doorbell? He was kinda reminded of his mom who would go all the trouble of knocking just because she didn't like the buzzing sound.
He stood up and looked at the peephole but there was no one.
"Fck. Is this some kind of prank?" He thought to himself.
He was about to go back but the knocking came again. Furious at whoever was making such prank in the middle of the night, he swung the door open and was about to shout at whoever was at the door but he stopped midway. Standing in front of him was the reason behind his late night thoughts and why he was so confused of his own feelings, Gun Atthaphan.
"Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to youuuu."
"Happy birthday, Off. Make a wish," Gun smiled as he held out the cake with a lighted candle for Off to blow.
(Stop confusing me, Gun.)
Off thought as he blew the candle.
-----
"So, what's your wish?" Gun asked as Off sliced the cake that Gun brought. It turned that Gun baked the cake as his way of thanking Off for his birthday treat to Gun on his birthday."Hmmm. Just some usual stuff. You know, getting rich. Haha."
"As if you're not rich enough. If I know, this whole building is yours." Gun said as he took a bite of the cake.
"How did you know?!"
"Seriously?! I was taking a guess!"
Off's laughter then filled the entire room. "I'm just kidding."
Off chuckled as Gun glared at him.
"You know what, you should call me P' since I am older than you."
"P'Off?"
"Sounds better."
"Happy birthday, P'Off."
Off looked at Gun who was now smiling from ear to ear, his mouth smeared with a little bit of icing from the cake. He then had this sudden urge to wipe the icing off Gun's lips. Unconsciously, he licked his own lips while looking at Gun's.
"Gun, wanna give me another birthday gift?"
A now confused Gun looked at Off.
"Hmmm. What gift?"
But his question was answered when Off crossed the distance between them and kissed him fully on the lips.
-----
Off looked at the man sprawled on his bed. After the kiss they shared last night, they somewhat had a mutual understanding of not talking about it. They just stared at each other and then Off decided to break the silence.
"Wanna sleep here?"Gun didn't hesitate and just nodded his head. They hugged while sleeping that mornight and for the first time after a while, Off slept soundly.
He felt the smaller guy move, further crumpling the bedsheets. Gun's head was on his left shoulder. He moved closer to hug the younger man. Though still confused with what he felt, he was somehow getting closer to the answer he'd been wanting to find.
"Good morning, P'Off," Gun said with a sleepy voice.
"Wanna go somewhere with me today?"
"Where?"
"Home. It's a Sunday. You don't have work later sooo, I was thinking maybe you'd want to come with me."
"Okay. I'll tell my mother first."
-----
Wearing a mermaid-print shirt Off had lent him, Gun sat on the passenger seat of Off's car."Are you sure you're bringing me home?"
"Yeah, why not? You're my last string of hope to survive this family event. At least I have someone to talk to or else I'd lose my mind listening to some business shits all over again."
Off handed his phone to Gun.
"You can choose the songs. We need some music to keep us awake the entire drive."
Gun scanned Off's playlist. He noticed that most of his songs were from synth bands.
He selected Night Traveler's Don't Forget Me.
♬I know you try to hide it
You're feeling lonely
Looks like I'll be losing sleep tonight
Out on the road
Still driving, gonna make it from Memphis
Don't need you being alone
Need you to know you're the best part of my heartbeat
So much more than you know♬"Hmmmm..Good choice."
"Your playlist's gonna keep me asleep to he honest. Don't you have something that's gonna pump some adrenaline in us?"
Off glanced at the younger man beside him and chuckled.
"I love this type of songs and the way they convey the meaning of the lyrics. Like seriously, why don't you try listening to the lines so you'd know what I mean."
Gun just frowned at him and looked ahead.
"♬Don't you know you're the best part of my heartbeat, so much more than you'll know,♬" Off sang along while glancing at the younger man who was now busy scanning the songs on his phone probably looking for something upbeat.
Little did Gun know, Off was starting to fully understand his own feelings. The only thing that was left to be done was to tell Gun.

"Happy birthday, Son. See you later at home."
Off heaved a long sigh upon reading his mother's message. He could already foresee what was gonna happen later at dinner. He was about to enter his car when he saw Gun descending a black sedan followed by a tall man who later kissed Gun on the cheeks.
Shock consumed his system when he recognized the man Gun was with. It was Jaylerr, his cousin.
