"Luke. Ring. Out." His boss looked through the door of Luke's Kindergarten classroom.

"Yes, sir," he stumbled, reaching his fingers into his mouth to undo the clasps of his lip ring. The broad principle left the room, mumbling about 'stupid newbies'.

Luke rolled his ice blue eyes, leaning back down to fix the name tags of his thirteen students. It was the first day back from winter break, the Ohio air outside filled with snowflakes softly flowing down.

The tall blonde stood up straight, straightened his black slacks, and took a deep breath.

Michael was running around, trying to understand why his two daughters were so damn happy to go to school. "Please, give me one more minute," he moaned from his bed, he wrapped his light green pillow over his head.

"Daddy, we don't have one minute!" Tessa squealed, her small feet bouncing on the plush mattress.

"Mom's going to be mad if we're late," Ella stood by the door, her arms crossed over her chest. He opened an eye, looking at the nine year old. Her brown hair was in ringlets of curls covering the right side of her face. She stood so tall and intimidating in her light blue jeans and bright green shirt.

Tessa, on the other hand, was the epitome of one hot mess. Her blonde hair (with the tips dyed blue -curtesy of Mike) was in a low pony tail, flopping against her back every time she jumped. Her toothless grin made Michael smile as he pulled her into a hug, covering her cheeks with sloppy kisses.

"Are you two both ready?" He asked, sitting up and rubbing his hazy eyes.

"You need to pack our lunches." Ella answered as she walked down the wooden stairs of their modern house.

"Can't you do that?" He called back, moving his feet to the cold floors. Tessa had long run downstairs, chasing her older sister.

Michael walked over to their en suite bathroom, finding many post-it notes from his wife. Don't forget to leave before 7:30, traffic is bad in the morning. Tessa needs to be walked to the door, but Ella will run right in.

Luke greeted the first few students, welcoming them back to second semester. He reminded them all to do their schooling chores. One thing he loved about working at a small charter school was the fact that the kids were the sweetest in the world. They walk in with smiles and giggles, going to water the plants, or take attendance. He likes turning around, looking at their small hands sharing the bucket of crayons as they drew what they did the last two weeks. They truly enjoy learning, and he hopes that never gets sucked out of them.

He never really expected to become an elementary teacher, he got an education degree simply to please his mother. He expected to become like his friends; musicians, artists, anything but a 'real job'.

Michael kept teasing his daughters as he pretended to turn from their Taylor Swift album to his Vampire Weekend album. He smiled into the rear view mirror of his 2013 Mustang, laughing at their whines for him to 'stop being a dick'.

"Never say that around Mom," he reminded them, pulling into the school parking lot, killing the engine. "Also, Tes, if she asks, tell her that you were in your car seat." He steps out of the bright red car, flipping the driver seat so the two girls could squeeze out of the back.

He loves his sports car to death, but it is definitely not made for anyone to actually sit in the back seat. Even his under four feet daughters.

Mike grabbed the small, pale hand of Tessa, locking his car with the other. Ella walked a few steps ahead of them, mad at her father for being five minutes late.

His daughters were funny, Tessa was the image of him (from her pale skin to loud voice), while Ella was the image of her mother (from her brown eyes to her constant need of organization). He loved them with all he has.

Luke was sat in front of the group, twelve kids sat criss-cross-applesauce style in front of him as they sang their song of the seasons, "winter, spring, summer, and fall," he smiled at their happy faces, "there are four seasons, four seasons in all," they sang with him, moving back and forth on their assigned carpet squares.

Tessa came in, waving to her teacher and hanging her dark pink back pack on the wooden hook.

She took her assigned light colored carpet square, placing it next to a few other friends and singing along, looking up at Luke like the idol he would one day become to her.
