Luke wiggled his finger in front of Matty, a smile upon his face as he buckled the two year old into his car carrier.
Every day, Matty was looking more and more like Luke. Their surrogate had extremely recessive genes, and it was obvious with Matty’s sloped nose, blue eyes, and pale skin.
He stood back up, closing the car door and giving a hug to Kate. “I hope you feel better. Give me a call if you need anything else.”
She gave him a half-hug, trying to not drop the dinner he’s brought over. “Thank you, Luke. It means a lot.”
He smiled, giving her a soft nod and going to the drivers seat. Sometimes, Kate would still have stressful days at work and needed a little extra help. Luke was always beyond glad to pick up the extra hand.
He pulled out of their driveway, taking a turn and heading the ten minutes to their house. Michael was supposed to be home any minute from work.
He got a promotion right before Matty’s birth with allowed him to not leave until ten, then be back around dinner. A weight was lifted off of their shoulders. It was nice for Michael to be able to look over in the night and see his sleeping beauty in a peaceful rest. It was nice to sit at their dining room table with baby Matty throwing food and Luke didn’t have to deal with it himself.
Michael was pulling into their garage the same time as Luke. The blonde smiled as he got out, “Hey, you’re early. I haven’t made dinner yet.”
Mike got out of his Mustang, dropping his briefcase on the ground and opening the door to greet a giggling baby. “I’ve had a bad day and need a cuddle,” he said as he pouted his lower lip.
Luke laughed, going around the car to grab Mike’s briefcase for him. “Are you going to take my baby away from me?”
Michael pressed Matty’s face against his own, both of them giving Luke glowing eyes, “Yes.”
He bit his lip and turned around, opening the door to their house. Their Norwegian Forest Cat greeted Luke at the door, rubbing his orange fluff against Luke’s lower calf and sending off a few squeaks. “I didn’t forget to feed you, hush.”
The cat circled around Luke, looking at him with hopeful eyes of more food.
Michael walked in, bouncing Matty up and down on his hip and pretending to drop the two year old. He learned his lesson after being vomited on a few times to never lift a baby above his head. “Should we order something in?” Mike asked, still pacing around the decent sized kitchen.
“We have Chinese take out in the fridge if you want me to heat that up,” Luke offered, lifting their overweight cat into his hands and placing him on the counter. He pet the fur as purring left the cat’s mouth.
“I’m fine with anything,” Michael said in a baby voice as he looked back at Matty. He left pecks on Matt’s cheeks and forehead and the tip of his nose. When they were decided which semen to use for their surrogate, Michael knew Luke wanted a baby with half of his so badly. Michael already had two beautiful daughters with his high cheekbones and small shoulders.
Luke kissed Michael and Matty on his way to heating up their dinner. He was so happy, so, so happy. He was glad he was finally breathing.
