battle at starcourt pt. 2
THE STATIC FROM MIKE'S DISCARDED SUPERCOM FILLED THE AIR AS THE YELLS FROM DUSTIN BARELY MADE THEIR WAY THROUGH. Adrian felt like his lungs were collapsing. He felt like he was dying.
"Griswold Family, this is Scoops Troop! Do you copy? Over." Adrian let out a shaky breath as he reached for Mike's hand, grabbing it tightly as he leaned up against him.
"Griswold Family, I repeat, this is Scoops Troop. Do you-." He was cut off by a loud screech from the Mind Flayer. Adrian's head jolted to the side as he watched the supercom slide against the tiled floor, breaking into pieces.
He gulped as he closed his eyes. Adrian held his breath when he heard pouring footsteps approaching them. He was too afraid to move, to even breathe.
He let out a sharp breath when the monster retreated, walking off. Mike got up, looking over the counter, barely. "It's turned away. If we go up the stairs now, we'll make it." He explained in a low whisper.
"No way, not with El's leg." Max protested. "We have to try."
Adrian swallowed as he took a turn looking over. "There's another way... to get out. Through the Gap." El matched their voices. "Yeah."
Mike nodded. "Okay." Mike grabbed Adrian's hand, Max grabbing El's. "Now."
They pushed themselves up and ran into the store, accidentally knocking something over. "Shit," Adrian whispered. "Go, go, go."
The four of them quickly hid behind a shelf, pulling their knees to their chests to try and make themselves seem less noticeable.
El was terrified when she saw a mannequin with her exact clothes being thrown over the shelf and landing next to their feet. Mike held onto Adrian's hand tightly. They took this moment to run to a different hiding spot.
Adrian felt tears fill his eyes as he looked at the faces his friends held. They were afraid. He was afraid. He didn't want to die, not yet.
Suddenly, a balloon popped, causing the monster to get distracted and run off. Adrian smiled softly. He had to thank Lucas for that later.
"Let's go," Mike whispered, everyone running alongside him. They pushed through a door quickly bolted down the hallways surrounded by metal walls. They quickly found the exit and pushed through, walking down the side of the mall.
