(Serena's P.O.V)
After Terra got changed we headed out of what I now made my supply closet. It holds food I was able to find other storage bins next to the first women's office, the scrubs just in case the first ones get dirty, and 3 more bottles of water. I was able to find the pairs of sneakers in the same closet. They were hidden under the piles upon piles of scrubs. It was also good for safety since it seems to be the most sturdy door in the whole building, It has saved me many times already. I cringe at the puke that now litters one of the corners. I'll just have to clean it later.
Once we got to the office area I handed Terra the paperweight "You go check the right, while I'll check the left." I said picking up my rock. She scowled at me "I thought you said we weren't splitting up." she hissed quietly. "Noooo" I said smiling "I said you wouldn't be alone and you won't be, I'll be right over there" I pointed hoping to get an okay. With a sigh she hesitantly moved to her right. I can't say I didn't feel nervous about leaving her to explore solo, but if theres one thing I know about Terra it's that she's strong. Mentally and Physically. I know she'll have no problem taking care of herself. Besides like I said I'm right across the room if she needs me. Without a second thought I head to my left.Well that wasn't very successful. All I was able to find was 4 mini sized Slim Jims, 2o scattered Skittles, a half eaten sandwich, 1 can of Pepsi, and a brand new bottle of 5 hour energy. I'm very convinced that one drawer belonged to lonely diabetic man in his late 20s that stilled lived with his cat crazy mother. On the bright side it is food. I check all the other bins for more healthy options but if there was, it would be invaded by ants. It couldn't have been the Pepsi! I notice a slight lump under one of the offices rugs and look under it to discover a pocket knife. "Looks like some one was a little psycho, bringing a weapon into a workplace" I say to myself, Despite that fact it will come in handy. I was cleaning the dust mites off it when I heard a scream.
I dash over to the other side of the room to see Terra standing over a creatures body and paperweight gripped tightly in hand, there seemed to be some dark green liquid dripping from it. "wow, I didn't know you had it in you," I cross my arms "I'm impressed.". "shut up!" she said dropping the paperweight "that thing was nearly this close to biting my leg off!" She shivered as she looked down at the creature that looked like a cross between a rat and a bird. A reek. I sigh "I'm sorry, are you alright?" I examine her up and down for any injuries. "No, at least not yet." she said tossing me a bitten apple and a bag of crushed Lays chips "Tell me, how exactly was this worth risking my life for?!" she said angrily. I shrug "Because even though it's not much, It could last us for a couple days." I place the apple and chip bag into my pack that I found in the main hallway. "Either way it was a stupid idea to split up." she says my eyes locked with mine "But an even stupider idea to leave the room." Terra exclaims. "What else did you expect us to do? starve to death?" I said looking straight at her.Her face was full of rage. "Terra I know your just upset and shaken up about what just happened but you got to keep your voice down." she looked down at the ground as I continued "If your scream didn't lure more of them here your yelling will surely do the trick. You need to remain cal-", "Calm?!" Terra's head shot up, "How is that even possible with all this going on? Being frozen alive to dealing with creatures like this?? You act like nothing is wrong and that is all normal! How am I suppose to stay calm to that?" All of a sudden a pit of anger rose in me. "Normal? Normal?! I don't act normal I act as a survivor because that's what I want us to be. Do really think we'd still be alive right now if I freaked out like you are right now?!". "I'M NOT FREAKING OUT!" Terra's scream echoed, or maybe it was my imagination. Either way there was no doubt that the floor was shaking. They where coming, and lots of them. I curse under my breath as I snatch Terra's arm and run out the back door to the parking lot, dragging her along with me.
I quickly get us to the closest car I could find.the trunk was broken but it will have to do. Being as sensitive as I could, I pushed Terra into the trunk, I jumped in after. They are now past the back door. I quickly ripped off the bottom of my shirt trunk and quickly tied the fabric around the trunk's latch and the other end around my wrist and closed the trunk. Then came the violent banging and scratching louder and more eager then I ever heard before. I wrapped both hands around the fabric to make sure it keep the trunk down. I didn't want to know what would happened if it didn't. In the darkness in could hear Terra breathing heavy. Wow she was breathing loud. Wait. No she wasn't, I was breathing heavy. I gritted my teeth as the force above the trunk got more harder to hold. But I wasn't letting go for anything. After all, our lives were depending on it...The noise and pounding started to die down, after that all that was left was to open the trunk. With a weak but steady hand I slowly opened the trunk looking around to see an empty parking garage. With a sigh of relief I step one foot out of the trunk to check further. As I I turn to face the right side of the car that held me and Terra, a black faded figure flew from the passager window right towards my face.
BOOM! Splash! I felt the warm dark blue substance land on my face as the cross between a bat/black widow thing landed on the ground, twitching and holding on to whatever life it had left inside. I quickly look to my left to see Terra clutching onto a blood stained handgun.
"I-It was in the trunk, I had saw it whenever you opened to see if they were gone." She said staring down at the bat widow.
"Terra... I'm re-" I started to say before I was practically tackled down.
Terra had dropped the gun and was now clinging onto me with what seemed like all her might "Please don't scare me like that again" she said tears filling her eyes "Don't leave me here all by myself". Flashbacks filled my mind of when we were 6 and 8, When we were on the playground and Terra would come running to me instead of mom whenever the other kids were bullying her. I was the one to save her to comfort her. It's what I vowed to be to her, her hero. It's all I ever wanted to be for her.
I felt a smile came upon my face as I hug her back and stroke her hair like a mother would a child. "I won't" I reassured her "I promise"
