JIMIN'S HANDS WERE CLAMMY.
Beads of perspiration dotted his forehead as he rubbed his palms against his jeans, trying to make them less moist. He leaned against the pole again, trying to gather his guts together. He knew he needed to do this - he needed some sort of cash.
That's what he had been telling himself for the past half an hour as he stood there. He let out a deep exhale, squeezing his eyes shut for a second as if that would help, before letting a more determined expression take over his face.
He was going to do it this time. He wouldn't chicken out, surely.
His eyes scanned the area, looking for a relatively easy target. He had no idea what to look for in a target, because he had never pickpocketed before. Well to be fair, he had no idea what he was doing. So he just decided to look for someone who was really distracted.
His eyes finally fell on a brunette sitting on a bench. She was reading a book and her bag was beside her, the sling of the bag not over her arms. His lips curved up a little.
Jimin made up his mind. It was now or never.
He slipped his hands in his pockets, in an attempt to stop himself from fidgeting, and tried to appear casual as he walked over. The girl didn't acknowledge him as he neared her, her eyes trained completely on the book.
Must be a really interesting book. Well, good for me anyway. I hope she doesn't look up. He bit his lower lip in apprehension as he took a seat next to her.
Okay, step 1 done. Now just... just do the thing! He licked his dry lips and forced himself to calm down. Just get it done and over with. He told himself, as he folded his arms and pretended to be interested in the... ground, yeah, the ground looked really cool today.
His left hand, hidden by his right forearm, tried to reach into her bag, only to realise it was zipped. He cursed inwardly, he hadn't even looked at it before sitting down! He's going to look like an idiot searching for the zip.
But he tried anyway.
His hands followed the metal lining until he got hold of the tiny zip. He tried to tug it, and mentally screeched when he heard it make a noise.
He wanted to drown in a pool of embarassment.
Nevertheless, he continued trying anyway. He continued looking forward, hoping against hope that the was still too engrossed in the book to turn around and see a nervous rookie pickpocket fiddling with her bag. He didn't have the guts to turn around and see if she was looking at him.
He finally managed to feel the interior of her bag when a smooth voice cut in "Are you done pickpocketing my bag yet?"
Jimin let out a little gasp as his head swivelled to face the brown-haired girl beside him. He could feel his face warming up as he stuttered, trying to lie "N-no I-"
She didn't appear interested in what he had to say as she looked back to her hands. Jimin also looked down to see she had stopped reading: the book was no longer in her hands. Instead, there was a wallet.
Wait, that looks familiar.
His eyes widened in realisation as she looked back at him, a cocky smirk on her face.
"Y-you pickpocketed me!" He stammered and she let out a low chuckle "No shit, sherlock."
Jimin's mind was in a frenzy. He had spent half an hour choosing a target, and when he finally did, he chose a fucking pickpocket! That too, an immensely skilled one, considering he hadn't even felt his wallet being taken.
His head was completely red by now and he groaned, covering his face with his hands. He heard her let out another chuckle at his embarassed stance, which made him want the ground to swallow him up once and for all.
So much for an easy target.
He felt her stand up beside him.
"Well, thanks for the wallet. I have to get going though. Good luck next time!"
It took a moment for the words to register as he was still really caught up on how to save himself from becoming a clown. His head popped back up, his eyes almost bulging out of its pockets. He couldn't lose the wallet - hell, losing that much money would be insane.
"Wait! You, brown hair!"
He yelled, rushing towards the girl who had just turned a corner. His heart dropped as he sprang into action, knowing that he could lose sight of her completely if she runs after turning the corner and vanishes.
Forcing his legs to sprint, he sharply turned the corner only to almost crash into her.
He tripped trying to stop in time, confused, as he stared at the girl in front of him who had her arms crossed.
"H-huh? Why aren't you running away?" he managed to ask, straightening himself to his full height in an attempt to look intimidating to the cat-eyed girl.
She just raised an eyebrow at his (probably flushed) face before letting a small smile take over her face. "I know you want your wallet back. You can have it, you need it more than I do."
When Jennie saw him looking too confused to accept the wallet from her, she forced it into his hands "Accept it before I change my mind."
That made him snap out of it "O-oh, I mean, yeah t-thanks."
"You stutter a lot."
He let out a scoff, "Well it's not everyday I try to pickpocket a goddamn pickpocket and fail miserably, then have her return me what she pickpocketed."
She shrugged, cracking a smile "Fair enough."
She paused, and extended a hand "I'm Jennie."
He hesitated but accepted her hand, "Jimin."
A small awkward silence ensued and he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, "Okay, well, I have to get goi-"
"Actually," she interrupted, grabbing his wrist, causing small tingles to run up his hand "I'd like to propose a deal."
He turned his bead back to face her, cocking it to the side "What?"
"How about," she began "I teach how to pickpocket, but in return you give me one fourth of the value of what you pickpocket for a month?"
