The first day of 4th grade was something Tomura was waiting frantically for.
Most children his age tried to savor summer vacation as much as possible. Going back to school was something to dread, sitting in cold hard desks for eight hours a day while having to cram as much information as possible into their tiny brains. Anyone who could look forward to that was crazy.
But Tomura knew that anything was better than being at home. Ever since his quirk appeared, his father had been gone from his life. When he was home, his father was not. There was always food and necessities at home but he had to do everything himself, make his own meals, bathe himself, and even entertain himself.
As insane as it sounded, his missed his father's beatings if it meant he wasn't alone. He couldn't stand the silence and the absence of company. That's why when the letter came in the mail from school he was giddy with excitement.
And next thing he knew, he was sitting in a brightly colored classroom full of empty desks.
The first day of 4th grade.
He was the only one here since he arrived as early as he could. The school wasn't too far from his house, so the walk there was pretty easy. He looked down at his hands and started to pick at his protective gloves, they were sleek and black.
'Never take them off' He reminded himself over and over.
Students slowly started trickling into the classroom, sitting in their assigned seats. Tomura peeked at the desk to his left and read the name written in black ink.
Touya Todoroki.
Whoever they were, they haven't arrived yet and looking around he noticed that it was the only empty seat in the class. It made Tomura a bit sad knowing that he might not get to meet his neighbour today, but he hoped maybe they would get to meet soon.
"Okay class, it seems like that's almost everybody" The teacher spoke up, grabbing Tomura's attention.
"Today is your first day" She started, "So I'll let you talk to your neightbors for now so you can get to know each other a bit".
Tomura wasn't exactly a shy person, but seeing as the girl sitting to his right was already in deep conversation with another girl, he decided to look around and listen in.
Some of the kids had quirks that made them look funny, like horns coming out of their heads, or extra limbs jutting out of their bodies. Tomura was busy scanning everyone in the room when the sound of the classroom door opening caught his attention.
A tall woman with beautiful white hair stood there looking around nervously.
"Can I help you?" Their teacher took a couple steps towards her.
"Yes, I'm so sorry", That's when he noticed a little boy cowering behind the woman,"He's late, but I promise it won't happen again".
She pushed him into the room and gave him a sweet smile before heading off. The little boy stood there twiddling his fingers until the teacher grabbed his hand and started leading him towards Tomura.
"This will be your seat for the rest of the year, okay?" She explained, "If you need any help don't be afraid to ask" And with that she was off to her desk.
Tomura glanced at the boy beside him in wonder, he had firey red hair and the bluest eyes he had ever seen. Bruises and what looked to be burn marks littered his body.
"Hi" Tomura chimed, and the boy looked to him, startled.
"I'm Tomura"
The boy looked down to the ground and made a weird face. Tomura frowned thinking that maybe he did something wrong or that he didn't like him.
"My name is Touya" He whispered.
Tomura beamed and kicked his legs in excitement. Touya looked at him weirdly but tried to return the smile.
"Can we be friends? I don't have any." Toumra asked eagerly.
"Sure" Touya shrugged. Tomura noticed him looking down at something in his lap, causing Tomura to look down at his own lap to see what was so interesting.
His gloves.
"What are those for?" Touya questioned.
'Never take them off' He reminded himself once again.
When he didn't answer right away, Touya decided to not dig any deeper about it but then the other spoke up quietly, "I can't take them off"
"Why?"
There was silence for awhile after that. They both sat awkwardly, not really knowing what to say or do.
Thankfully, the teacher started to pass around coloring sheets and packs of crayons. "Share with your neighbour, I don't have enough for all of you".
On the sheet was a picture of a field filled with little flowers and trees scattered here and there, smack dab in the middle was a simple house, and a sun in the corner.
They both began to color, every now and then asking advice for which colors to use.
"Why is your sun orange?" Tomura asked. Touya looked at him in confusion, "It's suppose to be orange".
"No it's yellow" Tomura stated.
"Well I think it's orange" Touya retorted.
The conversation between them picked back up and soon they were laughing and giggling at each other, Touya stuck crayons in his nose and make funny faces while Tomura was making different animal noises. They were having so much fun that they didn't mind that the rest of the class kept looking back at them for being too loud.
The whole mood changed when they both reached for the same crayon and their hands touched ever so slightly.
Tomura flinched and recoiled away from the other. Touya looked at him in shock and just as he was about to say something, Tomura burst into tears.
The teacher ran over and helped him out of his chair. At that point he was sobbing loudly and Touya felt awful knowing that he was the one who caused this, even if he didn't know why.
Tomura was dragged out of the classroom and his sobs got quieter and quieter as he was taken away.
Touya was left confused and heartbroken.
A/N: Hi everyone! Right now there are only a few of you reading my story, but hopefully in the future there will be more! I wanted to clear a few things up. This fanfic does not follow canon in MHA, there are still quirks but pretty much everything else is made up by me. Also this is not pre-written, so I'm pretty much making this up as I go along. Because of that there's not going to be a specific schedule for updates but I will do my best to put new parts out as quickly as possible! This chapter was really hard to write but please be patient because the next part will be out very soon :)
Thank you for reading <3
