Third Person POVThat's it.
During sixth year, Draco Malfoy figures out what he wants to do with his life.
He's out in the Room of Requirement, taking a short break from fixing the Vanishing Cabinet, when the epiphany hits him like a Stunning Spell.
The war will probably kill us all anyway, so why not go out with a bang?
Abruptly, he stands up and drapes the rug over the Vanishing Cabinet to hide it from the prying eyes of anybody else that comes in here.
As Draco makes his way silently back to the Slytherin dormitory, the gears in his head turn, thinking of ways to change everything and anything about himself before the upcoming war.
I'm going to have to act like a Gryffindor for some of these ideas.
He quickly dresses for bed and falls asleep thinking of possibilities.
—/—/—
The sounds of shuffling and doors opening wakes him up. Draco offers a quick nod to his dormates; Crabbe, Goyle, Zabini, and Nott, before getting dressed in his school robes.
First part of my plan, talk to mu— Hermione Granger.
In all six years at school, Draco had never hated Hermione Granger, only been told by his family to hate and disgrace anyone who wasn't a pure blood. It was a habit to call her "mudblood" even if he didn't mean it.
His gaze searched the Great Hall for the Golden Trio while he ate an apple half-heartedly.
There. They were walking in now. Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley were arguing about something and the Golden Boy; Harry Potter, was rolling his eyes and laughing at something his Weasley friend said.
"Staring at your boyfriend Draco?" He jumped and glanced to his left where Pansy Parkinson seemed to have appeared. She was the only person, along with Blaise Zabini, that he'd admitted he was gay and explained his plans involving the Vanishing Cabinet. Those were two secrets no one else knew about.
"He's not my boyfriend. He hates me." Draco took another bite of his apple.
"Mhm." Pansy hummed and left to talk to Blaise. Draco noticed the mud— no, Granger, get up from the Gryffindor table and head out of the Great Hall. Most likely to the library. Excusing himself quickly, he made his way to the library to find the bushy haired girl.
He found her sitting at a table in the corner of the library, entranced in a book. She caught sight of him, looked up, and then promptly ignored him, going back to her book.
"Um...hello." Suddenly, Draco was hesitant to talk.
She closed her book and sighed loudly. "Look, if you want to mock me, hurry up. I want to finish reading this before class."
Draco swallowed his pride and spoke. "No. I wasn't going to mock you. I came to apologize."
"Apologize? Are you mental? The Draco Malfoy I know would never apologize."
"Look...I'm sorry. I'm sorry for being a prick, and I know sorry doesn't quite cut it and is no excuse for what I've done to you, but I'm going to change. I don't know what happened, but I'm done. I'm done working with a Father who torments me and the Lord of Darkness. I'm done trying to protect a family that doesn't care for me. I need to distance myself as far as possible from them by starting with changing my appearance." Draco inhaled deeply, realizing that he said more than he meant to.
