As expected the school & academy combined had completely ruined my schedule. I wake up at 4am each day for prayer as I'm a muslim, I did prayed in the past but after saying the prayer, I went to sleep again. But now after the prayer I studied for school as the test shedule was totally unmatched. Then after school I come back home. Lunch, quick shower, and a change of clothes is all I can manage in the time between school & academy. Then the van comes to pick me up at 3pm sharp. There are also other students which the driver picks up on the way & the academy is already far, so takes me sharp 1hour & 16 mins to reach there under normal conditions. In this time while going to the academy I study for the test held there. How much can one memorize in such a small amount of time while being constantly distracted by others in the van? You'll see....
It's been a month since I started my highschool academy. In school I was the position holder. Top student in all schools in the city. I was still had the grip over my position in highschool. In academy though I had no records & there were only the elite there....by elite I mean either children with unnatural minds or children of rich peeps. I was nervous, yes I was. The academy was famous & now I knew why....the secret was all in the test system. They held a test everyday. Subjects n syllabus was interchanged. [A/N:by syllabus I mean the chapter (s) included in the test]. After each month the result came out containing the combined progress of all the tests included in the month. Then they had the one third tests & half books & full books. Combined in 1 year we gave the test of each chapter of each subject over 13times. A lot. The test schedule was given to us beforehand at the end of week 1 after joining. Today was the day.....the result was going to come out today. I was going to find out everyone's knowledge level.
I arrived at the gate, passed through some guards. As said I am from the most respected family, the "Syed" family (pronounced as 'Sayyed'). The way I walked was different so it was easy to differentiate. I walked with my eyes fixed on the ground. How did I know what was coming towards me? A quick glance combined with the sharp hearing I was blesssed with, was enough to avoid obstacles. I never used curses, cursing in mind is different but never had a curse left my mouth. I walked pass some guards. Went upstairs and turned around the corner to enter my class. And then I realized.....the class was overly filled. Usually there were like 3-4 rows empty at the end but not now. Though my seat in the front row by the wall was still empty. Great. Seemingly they had divided the class of 9th April in 2 sections, April A & April B. Today for aome reason we were combined as one overpopulated class. Usual subjects we studied, took part in the test. In April B, which was my section, no one talked to me. Well I'm a nerd what are the odds? April A boys were mostly children of rich people. All sitting in the back. A huge black kid with a mid heighted dark toned slim guy. Then there was a beautiful guy with fair skin n a light beard. There was also a guy, very tall with black eyes & hair, & lightly tanned skin (prolly cz of Sunlight). Soon after the lectures ended, three people from the management entered the class. A list and several enveloped in hand. One of them spoke. "The results of the tests contained from 7th April to 7th May are here". I was focused on what he was about to say. His mouth half opened as a voice broke my concentration. The black huge guy from the back spoke," There are not gonna be any positions from the boy's side, girls are the nerdy ones". Wow I thought guys in highschool forget the "I hate girls" concept. But well it was not like I knew a position holder was gonna come up from the boy's side. I had performed good in my tests but I'll never know if someone performed better than me or not. Better keep quiet n listen. The guy from the management seemed to ignore him and continued," For the first time, we have all top 3 positions from the same class out of all classes in all campuses". Didn't expect that. Took a quick glance at the classroom. Some were encouraging others saying they'll get the position. Some of us were calm. Especially the girl I pointed on the first day to be a topper. "On the third position we have roll no.65, Momina...",he said. Clapping sounds were made as expected. A girl got the top 3rd. "...with 96.4% this month",he added. Quite a high percentage. "On the top 2nd we have Roll no.52, Tayyaba Tariq with 96.8%", he said again. The quiet girl I pointed got the top 2nd. Then he spoke again. "On top we have a student with astonishing 98.9%.....",he spoke then drifted off. That much of a high score must require some high level of memory right? so I thought. As I drifted off in my thoughts a voice silenced them all."....Roll no.95 Syed Aryan Haider, please step forward". I was shocked beyond belief. I got the top score so easily? With only an hour of study? I nevertheless stepped forward. Signed on the list he was holding. And was given a red coloured envelope. Sat back on my seat. Quiet as ever.
The following days were quiet. People started to kind of avoid me as if I was abnormal. In their minds they must be trying to give me time & not disturb me during lectures. I'm thankful for that. Then one day on 13th May. One of the backbenchers came up to me & sat beside me. At first I didn't care. Then I glanced up. He was the tall guy from the back with tye light tan. The smell of Axe Body spray hitted me like a whip. And yes he was clearly over 6 ft. Me with my 5'4 was nothing comparable. I was younger too, so I guess that's fine. Then I realized I was staring at him. And he had noticed. Instantly turned my gaze to my book. Then he spoke, "My parents were infromed by the counsellor that I was sitting in a bad company in the back. My parents requested the management to keep me away from them & bring me with someone who's good in studies & etiquettes....so my seat is fixed with you, for as long as we both study here". That was shocking. Not like it mattered. But somehow I was happy. Oh sh[OOF]t, sometimes I forget I am gay....."Oh, ok I'll try not yo disturb you too much", I replied. "My name is Ali....", he said n drifted off. Seemingly his eyes were fixated on the page I kept in the transparent book cover. It was handwritten, it said 'Be good, then try to be better until u become perfect'. I am a calligrapher. At first I didn't wanted to be close to someone, I had a taste of the pain of falling in a love impossible to achieve. I avoided being friends with any guy, I avoided them completely. Didn't wanted to face a heartbreak. Then one day Ali was sitting beside me as usual & he was talking to guy in the previous row. The few minutes between each lecture were going on. I didn't knew the conversation going om between Ali and the guy he was talking to but I heard Ali say one thing clearly. "....Yeah, Aryan...he's a good friend of mine......"
