Elżbieta stepped around the living room. Her usual pale complexion is still tinted pink as she collects a few odd objects around the room. "You should clear out. I'll meet you later in the, ah, in the— wherever the movie is being played."
"It's going to be in the cafeteria, I think?" You stand up and exhale. Your mind is still swimming in the remnants of lust. Seeing her walk around in her underwear isn't really helping your mind clear either. All of a sudden, you wish that you and Elżbieta were always that intimate with each other. Not to mention, having it be a little bit of a forbidden love with her was a little been of a—
"Turn on that light when you're heading out, would you? I think I dropped something when I was undressing." Elżbieta asks, slipping into some leggings.
"Uh, yeah! I can do that. I'll catch you later." You flip the switch and head out the door. You don't see anyone else in the hallway, but you were pretty quiet, so you didn't expect anyone to hear and investigate anyway.
The walk to the cafeteria was brief and uneventful until you ran into Monika along the way, who was with Marius, apparently returning early from an operation. He looked tired, as you would have expected, but Monika seemed a bit more thrilled. She saw you and her wide smile thinned to a generous curl. After taking a few steps away from Marius, she signaled you to join them.
"Gluten Adben." <<Good Evening>> you said with a slight nod. They both said the same and asked if you knew what movie was going to be provided. You shrug and tell them that you weren't sure still. Marius yawned and looked over his shoulder.
"Sprechen wir drinnen Englisch?" <<Do we speak English inside?>> Marius inquired curiously. "Ich habe Heimweh..."<<I'm homesick...>>
"Es ist bevorzugt." Monika says. "Wir sind eine englische Basis ... in England." <<Is it preferred. We are in a English base...In England.>>
Marius groans. He looks at you and squints. He says you look a little flushed. You smile and step back. Making eye contact with Monika, you decide to make a joke about Monika's laid back appearance. "Monika ist einfach hübsch?" <<Monika is just pretty.>>
The group laughed. Another voice came from behind however, interjecting into the conversation. "What does that mean?"
There was a slight accent that was vaguely familiar. As you started to turn around, you replied. "I said IQ was pretty."
When you finished turning, you were face to face with someone that was also familiar. A pair of brown eyes shot into yours as you translated yourself. You swallowed, regretting it immediately. The group behind you nudged you, giving you their farewells as they entered the cafeteria. Zofia looked at you, unimpressed with your joke and then sized you up.
Knowing that Elżbieta needed you to befriend her sister; you stammered. "I- you know- she's just not dressed up—"
Zofia cut you off and jabbed her hand at you. "You're in a special forces program, stop acting like you're in high school and get on the same level as everyone else."
You felt your face redden. You were going to snap but instead you sighed. "I didn't mean anything of it, Zofia. You're smart enough to know that."
Unphased by your comment, she continues. "Honestly, I don't know why you are here, out of the units to choose from, we pick you? There are much better suited people out there that could run loops around you."
Your heart started to race. "I'm keeping up just fine. You gotta accept I'm here until fate says otherwise."
Zofia scoffs and crosses her arms. Suddenly, you see the resemblance between her and her sister. Your expression softens and you lower your voice. "I want to help as much as I can though. You have a lot of experience and would appreciate it if you could teach me a thing or too."
