She had leaped away at the last second. She couldn't bare to watch him. He was destroyed, wrecked, broken. As much as she loved him, as much as she tried to help him, they couldn't escape the inevitable. She hated it. She hated the world. Everything. Why the world had to be so unfair to the kindest, funniest, best people.
She stuck to the shadows. Watching the world play out. Watching him. Watching all his stupid decisions, wishing she could help him. This was their fault. His parents, they had caused this. She watched all of her friends, she watched them grieve over her, join the Neverseen over her, because that's what they thought she wanted.
It wasn't what she wanted, but she couldn't tell them that. She was supposed to be dead. She watched Alvar, one of her closest friends turn to the dark.
Like him. No, he wasn't evil. She wouldn't let herself think that. There had to be some of him in there, some of Brant.
She watched and watched. She watched her parents emotionally grow thanks to a girl named Sophie. She immersed herself in watching Sophie's life then.
She watched her become friends with Fitz. Alvar's little brother. She wanted to warn them, warn them that Alvar couldn't be trusted, even if she herself, would trust him with her life.
She watched Sophie become friends with Dex, who reminded her of her own friend Conroy. She watched her become friends with Biana who was so similar to Adonis. She watched her fight the neverseen, join the Black swan, make even more friends. Like Keefe. Who was too much like Brant.
She noticed how oblivious Sophie was, it was much like how she used to be. She noticed all these similarities. So when Keefe's mother turned out to be evil, and he too was an experiment of the Neverseen. She couldn't take it.
He was doomed, they were all doomed, because history: was bound to repeat.

That was probably very confusing. Basically history is repeating, (sort of) and Jolie is Sophie, Brant is Keefe, Alvar is Fitz, etc. etc. I'm pretty sure Alvar is actually younger than Jolie and Brant, but for the sake of this story: he's not.
