He heard the loud bam sound, as his hand united with the ball for a short moment, and soon after another bam sounded, as the ball hit the ground, and the sound were quickly followed, by the sound of sneakers against the wooden floor, as he ran away. Everyone in the gym knew the sound well, many of them had heard it, since they were little. But surprisingly the sound of him running stopped.
“Iwa-chan?” Oikawa’s worried voice sounded. It was the same, as when he had been at Iwaizumi’s house. But this time he became really worried, when Iwaizumi didn’t answer. “Hajime?!” He ran over and helped the boy stand.
Iwaizumi had only hit a few balls, the practice had only just stared. Why did he real so tired already? No, he wasn’t tired, he couldn’t breathe. That was the reason, he at the moment stood learned forwards with his hands on his knees, as he felt Oikawa’s grab around his waist, and around his chest. Oikawa were trying to help him stand straight. But Iwaizumi pushed the boy away, as his hands found their way to his neck again. Damn it, he couldn’t control it.
It wasn’t because, Oikawa had done something cute or anything. But because his heart rate went up, he couldn’t breathe. He just needed more air, but none were able to come through the little space left in his trachea. He had had a hard time breathing before, but this was on a whole other level. He felt like, he was drowning. Like the flowers filled his lungs, like water would fill them in a drowning.
Powerful coughs managed to rip a few of the flowers and petals out of Iwaizumi’s throat, which landed on the ground in front of him. Even though he wasn’t looking, he could sense the others back away in shock. Much to his understanding. Their hard-surfaced friend had begun to cough up petals. They all knew, what it meant. And they all felt bad for not noticing. They had all noticed his weird behaviour, but they had never questioned it. And now they felt bad, because that Iwaizumi had been suffering right under their noses, and they hadn’t had an idea.
None of the others had had Hanahaki disease before, so they didn’t know the pain, Iwaizumi went through. The only guess they could go with, was from books about Hanahaki disease, that they had read in school. And of course from their suffering friend in front of them.
None of them knew, what to do. So they all just kinda stood. All except for Oikawa. For some reason Oikawa was at all full senses. He tried to get closer to Iwaizumi, tried to help his friend, but to no help, he got pushed away by Iwaizumi either physically or psychically, whenever he tried to get close. “Iwa-chan let me help you!”
Iwaizumi began to panic, as he realized, that he was unable to form words. Before that moment, he had just thought, it was another time, he just needed to cough up some flowers. But without him realizing, he had stopped coughing. He couldn’t cough. He couldn’t speak. He could nothing. He had been so focused on keeping Oikawa away, that he hadn’t noticed the enormous pain in his head. It was way more than just a headache. He felt like his head was about to explode. He had never felt a pain like that before.
Iwaizumi kept trying to breathe, to cough, to do womething, as he faintly could hear, Oikawa yell for someone or something. His hearing, as well as sight were blurry. The only thing he could see, were masses of colour moving around. But if it were because, that they moved around, or he were swaying around, he didn’t know. Everything seemed to fade away. Sounds seemed to become distant and mushy. Colours and figures melted into dots moving around.
