The droid suddenly sensed Wilder, and lowered it's cannon. Wilder screamed, as a brace of bullets ripped up the floor right under him. He leaped onto the windowsill, and threw himself onto the hover car. The droid clicked along behind him, automatically reloading it's gun and chattering off round after round.
Neptune pressed the throttle, hard, and they flew away from the Grand Hall, Wilder was half in and half out of the ship at that point, and he was struggling to heave himself into the cabin.
"Neptune! Slow down! I'm going to fall!"
They swerved hundreds of feet over the city. Wilder squeezed his eyes shut, and Neptune managed to slow the craft down enough to offer him a hand. Together, they managed to get all body parts into the craft.
"Where is James?" Neptune asked.
"Wasn't there at all," Wilder said, "There were droids in there. I have a really bad feeling they are taking all the incarnates as soon as they come back."
"Damn. That's bad."
"I have no idea where the others are. We can only assume they all went to storm the ship." He glanced at the hulking mother-ship, glaring down at him. "We're going to have to go up there."
"No way!"
"Don't you think it's the only way to find the others? We know the droids are taking people! Right?"
Neptune shrugged.
"I know Adonis wanted to go prove his theory," Wilder said bitterly, "And so did James. I know the both of them far better than I thought."
"Ah, so you're remembering your past life now?"
"Not entirely," Wilder sighed. "I want you to come with me, but I understand if you don't want to."
"We will definitely go," Neptune said, "I'll stick with you, dude."
Wilder gave him a hollow smile. "I'm glad to hear it," he said. "Do you think we could outfit this baby with anything stronger?"
"Yeah, take me back to the breach hideout, and I can fix it up. There is one hell of an arsenal down there."
They parked the hover car in front of the entrance to the hideout. They found Bee, slumped over on one of the couches, foam in her mouth.
"She did it too," Wilder said in disappointment when he saw her. "It must be an underground drug. I have no idea how everyone is getting ahold of it."
"We will have time to mourn later," Neptune said, holding his nose. "I need to get some tools from the back."
Wilder followed him into another room that led off from the room with the chairs and therapist couch. Tools of all kinds lined the walls, along with a decent selection of rifles, pistols, and blades. There was also a deep space bag, which he took quickly. While Neptune selected the tools he needed. He took one of the rifles and quickly dismantled it. Wilder slid a rifle into the deep space bag. He knew it would come in handy at one point. He also took some goggles that were designed for night vision. They also had a distance meter inside, and acted as a sniper scope.
Neptune carried an armful of things towards the door, and Wilder followed him, the clip on his holster open. They knelt behind the hover craft as Neptune popped open an access panel. "We don't have any circuit connectors or anything," he said, "so this won't be perfect. If we can get it into a building with some real tools I can make it even more sick." He handed Wilder a cable and said, "take that around to the back. It's connected to the power supply of the car itself. This antigrav rifle is going to pop off anti gravity rounds. Basically it's a ballistic with no weight, therefore the speed and distance is enormous."
"We should get our hands on a rupture gun," Wilder added. "I'm sure that could actually do some damage to that Scorpion."They worked on the hovercraft until the sun set. "We can go in under the cover of darkness," Wilder said, pacing the room with a flashlight in his hand.
"You have to stay in one place, dude, I can't see."
"Hey, what is that ship doing now?"
In the dwindling light, the two of them saw the giant ship coming through the atmosphere. It came farther down, and settled on the coastline, decimating the buildings under it. The landing caused a huge could of dust and debris to rumble across the city like an aftershock. A huge wave was pushed away from the hull, leaving the coast bare for a moment, and then it all washed back, covering the nose of the ship in water. The onyx colored craft was gigantic. It covered at least a third of the cities 7 mile long coastline.
"At least its easier to get to now," Neptune mused.
