It was like any other day. The sun was shining. The plants were vibrant as ever. And I was hanging out with my only friends barry, david, and mark. Currently, I was sitting in the little cave thing they had. The 'elder rock' or something like that. Anyway, me and my friends knew everything about each other. Except one thing. They had no idea how bad it was at home.

Let me just get you up to date on what my home life is like. It all started when my mom met my dad-- just kidding. I know it's a little too late to hop onto that train. But seriously. My home life sucks. My mom and dad are two of the most spiteful people on earth. Well, I don't want to say spiteful, but I don't really have a better word for it. They hit me for dumb things. Like one time, I asked for something and they said no. Well I made a small 'aw' noise. My bad. 'Cause my mom stomped on my toe. That gorilla needs to step off my case. Get it? Step? No? Okay, I'll continue telling you everything about this sanctuary called the creek.

Barry and david were already under the elder rock with me. Mark was off doing god knows what. Right when I was about to call him to see where in the high heavens he could be, he crawled into the surprisingly large cave.

Barry was the first to speak. "Dude, where were you? We have been waiting for hours!"

Mark grimaced. "Well, Barry, it just so turns out (y/n)'s cousin could hook me up with a job. Today was my first day and I forgot to tell you."

David just sat back, knowing i was about to pipe up. "Seriously? You couldn't take two seconds and say 'hey guys! I'm trying to be responsible for once.' So that i could do other things? I'm ever so sorry i also have a life that I need to tend to."

Mark just uttered, "Sorry."

To most people I would come off as rude, but my friends know I just value time. After all, my parents give me more house work than an illigal immigrant hiding from the police.

"Anyway... (y/n), you had something cool to show us?" Mark said, suddenly remembering why I had texted him that morning.

An expression of realization crossed my face. "Oh, right! So like, you know that craig kid who is more capable than the FBI? Well, I know his family and all. So he knows people who know people that can get these." I held out three tickets to comicon in a few months as they marveled at the beautiful sight.

"Dude, you are the coolest!" Barry exclaimed.

"But there are only three." David pointed out.

"You're right. What's the deal with that?" Mark asked.

"I... don't want to go." That was the biggest lie I have ever told in my life. I desperately wanted to go, but I know my parents would beat me if I went without their permission of which i have already been denied.

Mark narrowed his eyes in suspicion. He could always see right through me, but he let it go most of the time. "If you say so," he said, his voice was also laced with suspicion. That was when I knew he was going to bug me later about it.

(Time skip bcas I'm 🌟lazy🌟)

It was a few days later, and mark's day off. We were hanging out in my room. While my parents hated me, they let me have friends over. I suspect it's because they want to catch me doing something. But anyway, I was laying on my bed and mark was sitting in the roller chair I had.

"We both know you suck at lying. What's really up?" Mark said out of nowhere.

"What?" I was totally confused.

"A few days ago you said you didn't want to go to comicon. That was a bald faced lie." Mark said.

I was struck with realization. "Oh... I guess you would be iffy about that." I said. I didn't want to say anything in fear of my parents overhearing.

Apparently my face made it obvious I was sad, because mark said, "You know you can tell me anything, right?" He looked at me sincerely.

I wanted to tell him all about my situation, but it didn't want my parents overhearing and making everything worse. But when push comes to shove, I could use that against them.

"They abuse me." I said quietly.

"What...?" Mark said with a sad tone.

I nod. "My parents. They hit me and tell me things that totally deflate my day."

Mark stayed silent. I was scared about how he was going to respond, but if he won't stick with me through this, we shouldn't be friends.

"Do you harm yourself?" He asked.

"No.... I know my parents would probably hit me if I had any scars, so...." I say without looking at him.

"Well, it's a good thing you don't harm yourself, but that reason scares me. How long have you felt this way?" He asked softly.

"God, I don't even know. It's been a while...." I say, truly unable to remember.

"Well, I was going to wait on this, but you seem like you need to hear this right now." He pulls me to be sitting up. He holds my hands gently. "(Y/n), I love you. And I have always loved you. I don't ever want you to feel like you have to hide everything. I can help you get out of here if you want. Whenever you're ready, I will be there, holding you're hand."

I give him a grateful smile as I hug him tightly. He hugs me back. Tears start to toll down my face as I silently cried out all of my pent up emotions. "I love you too."

"So, uh... does this mean we're dating now?" Mark asks. He knew by asking that, he would make the atmosphere a little lighter.

I chuckle quietly. "What do you think? Of course it does!" I kissed him on the cheek happily as we spent the rest of the night watching movies on Disney+.
