“… I was lost, I was lost; crossed lines I shouldn’t have crossed, I was lost, oh yeah. Yeah! How long must you wait for it? Yeah! How long must you –”

“Shut up, Chris,” muttered Becca as she answered her phone. She’d just gotten out of the bath – her special way of unwinding, and thinking about how grossly abnormal her life was for someone her age. She saw the name on the mobile screen. It was Darcy. No doubt, she would be wanting to talk about how fantastically her own date went… or complain about what a rubbish choice Becca had made.

Becca sighed. Either way, she had to answer it. It was unfair not to.

“Hey, Darcy.” She said monotonously, her resentment evident.

“Hey, Becca!” Darcy’s voice said happily. So, it would be the former reason, then. “So… how did it go?”

Becca paused, taken aback. Very rarely did Darcy direct the conversation away from herself. “Don’t you want me to ask you that?”

“No, no, we’re focusing on you. How did it go?” – Becca stopped again. Was Darcy really concerned about how Becca’s life was going, for once? Well, this was quite a change! Becca smiled a little, then continued.

“Well, when I saw… her, I was a little…” Becca started, but was unsure how to end.

“Blown away? Speechless? Mesmerised?” Darcy suggested proudly.

“… shocked, Darcy. I was shocked.” Becca finished truthfully.

“Well, that’s a given, I suppose.” Darcy conceded. Becca could just imagine Darcy was shrugging at this point.

“Hmm. Of course I was unsure at first, but…” Again Becca paused. It was such an… awkward topic.

“But…?” Darcy asked.

Should Becca just come straight out with it and tell Darcy how she was truly questioning her sexuality? She thought about it, and then shook her head. No; for some reason her instinct told her it would be better for her to visit Darcy and then tell her.

“Darcy, could I come around? I need to talk to you in person, I think; that would be best.” Becca nodded as she spoke, almost as if she was assuring herself.

“Oh! Alright, sure.” Replied Darcy, her tone a little stiffer than usual. She was probably annoyed that they hadn’t gotten onto the subject of her yet, or maybe she was annoyed that Becca’s date evidently had led to something that could mean something. Becca gritted her teeth. Resentment gripped her being for a second time.

“Bye, Darcy.” – she hung up.

Well, she’d made a promise; she ought to go round there anyway. Although, she doubted Darcy would even listen to her.

She sighed, and got her things ready for her visit.

In a way, Becca was annoyed at Darcy. Well, this was not an unusual thing, but this time she was annoyed for a reason that she didn't forsee.

Darcy had been right. Becca had convinced herself that the date would go terribly, but Becca was wrong for once... and Darcy was right.

Becca nibbled her lip in confusion as she drove to Darcy's apartment.

She arrived.
