Chapter One

"Oh come on Tanaka, we all know she's not real."

"I'm not lying!! She is real!"

How did the conversation start?

With Tanaka declaring he has a girlfriend. As soon as the words flew out of his mouth, the entire gym went deadly silent. No one made a move, but instead they turned their gaze onto the 2nd year boy.

Burst of laughter rushed into the gym like a wave, tears, and yells came out of their mouths. Even Kageyama chuckled a bit,

"You have a girlfriend? Pfft." Tsukishima covered his mouth along with Yams.

"S-SENPAI YOU HAVE A GIRLFRIEND!! SO COOL!!" Hinata gushes excitedly at Tanaka, stars forming in his eyes.

Tanaka puffs out his chest, placing his hand on his waist,  "That's right-" Tanaka starts but was interrupted,

"Hinata don't fall for his words."

Ennoshita sighs. Was his words really for the sake of not letting his kohai fall for his prank? Or was it to assure himself that Tanaka really didn't have one.

Who'd know.

"Bruh, I'm literally telling the truth." Tanaka watched as everyone continued to laugh at his remark,

"What's next? You got a 100 on your math test?" Narita asked, sarcasm laced within his voice. The poor boy turned beet red as he preached his case.

"Guys I'm serious, I do have a girlfriend!!"

As more laughter broke out Kiyoko, from a distance, watched the boy's expression, listening to the hopefulness in his voice.

She stood there, watching as the others laughed. Her eyes shifting from Tanaka to Ennoshita, scanning his scrunched up face.

She felt her heart pick up with a pang, she was slightly scared the boy she likes could potentially have a lover that wasn't her...

As she moved her gaze back towards Tanaka, she immediately thought back to the moment she first laid eyes on Tanaka as she jumped into the gym.

His soft curly blonde hair tostled slightly, in contrast to the rough expression on his face that flushed pink at eye contact with hers. It was love at first sight for her, and it was the same for him...

Or so she thought.

"That poor girl, having an idiot as a boyfriend." Everyone continued to make small comments,

"What'd you say Tsukishima!!" Tanka shouted while charging at the first year. "Okay guys, calm down for a second." Daichi places a hand on Tanka's shoulder,

"If you really do have a girlfriend, how come we've never even seen or heard of her?"

"Yeah Ryu!" Nishinoya speaks up, "You usually tell me everything. How come I never heard of her?" Noya asked. Everyone looked at Tanaka expectantly.

Although they didn't believe him, part of them were a bit curious. "Well you guys wouldn't know her."

"And why is that?" Sugawara questioned,

"She goes to another school."

Another rush of laughter emitted, Tanaka felt heat flush his face. As his team laughed at his statement,

"I s-swear, she does!" Tanaka stammers out. "That sounds like the excuse I made back in elementary school.."

Yamaguchi mumbled, a sweat mark going down his face. Ennoshita sighs with relief before chuckling,

"Leave it to Tanaka to say something like that."

Ennoshita walks over towards Kiyoko, hoping her calmness will help keep him from feeling anxious.

I mean could you blame him?

He looked over towards Tanaka, watching as Suga rubs Tanaka's head in sympathy, consoling him.

"There's no need to feel embarrassed Tanaka, not everyone here is dating someone."

Ennoshita shifts his gaze towards Kiyoko, "...So what do you think?" Kiyoko looks up from her clipboard,

"If i'm being honest, I'm not sure.."

She runs a hand through her hair, "Well there goes my peace of mind." The boy thought to himself,

"Let's hope it isn't.."

Tanaka was filled with anger, but also with a bit of sadness. Is this what his teammates really thought of him? Did they really believe he could not score a girl, a cute one while you're at it.

What happened to supporting each other?

"Guys." Tanaka's face changed, "I'm not lying, I really do have a girlfriend." His voice didn't waver at all, neither did his expression.

"Oh come on Tanka, we all know she's not real."

"I'm not lying!! She is real!"

"If you have a girlfriend, which I doubt, then what school does she go to?" Tsukishima questioned, eyeing Tanaka for any sign of him telling a lie.

"Shiratorizawa." Tanaka answered just as quickly as he heard it, "Tanaka I'm sorry, but there's no way you got a girlfriend from a top notch school like that."

"And why is that?" Tanaka glared Kinoshita down,

"Well, you're Tanaka. That's why."

"What the fuck! I'm telling the truth." Tanaka rubs his head then runs his hands down his face, with a long sigh.

He'd never lie about something like this, his pride would never allow him to.

"Enough is enough Tanaka, we don't have time for your jokes." Daichi claps his hands, "Now everyone, let's finally start practice!"

Daichi pats Tanaka in the back, as he heads towards the court, and so practice begins for the boy's.

Tanaka stood there on the side, glaring at the floor, with his fist clenched. The longing pain of not being believed in or trusted in, hurt Tanaka.

Even so, he was more determined than anything, to prove that he did in fact have a girlfriend.
