Although he isn't part of Detective Sagiri's division or squad Jared couldn't disobey a senior officer. He was now waiting on the spot where Detective Sagiri left him yesterday. He arrived earlier so he decided to look around but before he could take a step heard a familiar voice.
"Hey." Detective Sagiri with his cool demeanor called out Jared.
"Sir." Jared politely replied.
"Now we're going to the dakimakura store and arrest the suspect."
"How did you know the identity of the suspect, detective?"
"Well for one he works at the store, and there's something about him."
"Do you have a warrant or any solid evidence against him?" Jared hinted at his scepticism.
"No, I could feel it in my gut."
"Wait that not how it-"
Detective Sagiri looked at Jared a little irritated. The latter shut his mouth and followed the detective. Both of them arrived at the dakimakura store front. Jared opened the door for the detective, buf before they could enter, a customer got out and thanked them. They politely smiled back and went inside.
At the store they saw the manager roaming around. He fixed a few displays with a gleeful smile.
"Irasshaimase, ora! It's you from yesterday!" The manager greeted Detective Sagiri. "So have you decided on what to get?"
"I'm sorry, but no. I'm Detective Sagiri of the OCD." Detective Sagiri approached the manager as he flashed his badge.
"Oh."
"I'm looking for your employee, Stewie. See I believe he's linked to a bunch of Dakimakura related murders that had been happening in the past week. And we need him for questioning."
The manager's eyes widen in disbelief. Jared wanted to comfort the man but abstained. The manager leaned at the counter as he tried to process the news.
"Sorry po sir. He's not here at the moment, on break. He'll probably be back in a few minutes."
"It's okay, we'll just wait for him out here."
Before they could find a place to seat Detective Sagiri received a report from his radio.
"Requesting all available units, we received a 911 call from a man who claims to be chased out by some masked lunatic over on5th street. Any units in the area over?" The operator's voice was barely audible in the radio's crackle.
"That's a block from here." Detective Sagiri said.
"Is it possible that it's the customer we just ran into just now?" Jared's tone turned to that of concern.
Without even thinking of anything, Jared sprinted out into the 5th street hoping to help the caller. Jared rushed, jumped, and evaded the busy swarm of people in order to reach 5th street.
As he got closer so did the lights around the block grew darker. Jared's dash became slow tiptoes of caution. He slowly approached the corner only to hear a loud thud that made him change his pace into rushing ahead.
Before his eyes laid a dead man with the dakimakura cover wrapped around his neck, culprit nowhere to be found. Jared rushed towards the victim, who was indeed the customer from earlier, removed the dakimakura cover on his neck and gave him an immediate CPR.
Jared managed to save the victim. He placed the victim in a recovery position. Detective Sagiri arrived a little late pointing his gun down.
"He's stable, but we need to get EMT right away." Jared told Detective Sagiri as he caught his breath.
Detective Sagiri went into his radio to call for EMT which the operator responded to right away. He then holstered his gun which Jared can't help but ask about.
"Sir is that-"
"A BB gun replica of Major's Thermoptic gun from Ghost in the Shell? Yes. Ever since the gun ban, the police could only carry non-lethal weapons . Which sucks for the regular guys but to us."
"That's not what I meant but never mind."
As the pair began to attend to the victim the nearby alley thundered and crashed. It caught Jared's attention enough to make him investigate.
"Hey Rookie where are you going?!"
"Sir take care of the victim." Jared rushed to follow the loud crash.
Jared entered the source of the sound and found nothing. His eyes darted around the dark alley. At first he found nothing until his eyes adjusted and everything came to view.
He moved farther away from Detective Sagiri in search of the suspect. Suddenly Jared caught a glimpse of the shadowy figure at the corner of his eye. He pivoted his body only to find an empty trash bin.
Then it rattle again. And again.
It was like Jared was looking for an elusive rat that has been terrorizing his home for months. Jared finally noticed the patterns. He looked back and saw the suspect charging at him.
The suspect flung a number of jabs and hooks to which Jared dodged with ease. Jared weaved and dove around dodging the attacks with occasionally throwing his arms out in defense.
As the suspect continued, Jared dodge and threw a weak punch at him. The force wasn't strong to knock him out but strong enough to take him back a few steps. Jared went in with more offensive attacks. All his punches are often dodged by the suspect but it hits every time.
The suspect received a body blow. He backed up and drew a knife out of his back. The knife gleamed at it reflected the light from the moon. He rushed into Jared. Upon seeing the knife, the latter held back no longer and went in full force. Jared was a little bit curious about the fact that the suspect seemed to be adept in hand to hand combat.
Both combatants held up against their opponent. But the winner was already known. Jared kicked the suspect back with full force. It sent him back landing on the trash bin with a loud thud. Jared approached the beaten suspect.
"You have the right to-"
Before Jared could finish reading the man his right the suspect began to fling trash at him. Jared naturally held his hand up to protect himself. The trash continued raining until it stopped with a large newspaper that enveloped Jared's face.
When Jared removed the paper the suspect was long gone.
