I was not there when you were enslaved,
I am here when you are free
I can't be grateful enough for democracy
Oh, to be born in a land of dreams
where diversity brings peace
I promise to respect all the cultures
that make this land unique
I wasn't there to free your cuffed hands and shackled feet
I was born from the womb of liberated India
and nurtured in the lap of her fertile land
which provided me not only with
food but also love
and forgave me for every time I hurt her
I thank thee for mercy
and unmerited grace
you bestowed on me
time and time again
The countries might be falling
The kingdoms might be coming
But I promise you, Mother India I'll strive to keep you alive
The spirit of kindness and forgiveness
That holds us together
shall always reside
inside my bosom forever
I thank thee Mother,
for the knowledge you gave
for the wisdom you taught
for the stories from your enriched soil
that put me in tranquil sleep
after a day of toil
I thank thee for helping me be the person I have become
And I promise to help thee become the land
that leads graceful existence of all

Hey everyone,
I wrote this poem on 74th Independence day of my country India (15th August, 2020 ).
My country was a British colony till 1947 and a lot of people had to sacrifice themselves for the freedom that I have.
I wrote this poem to honor all those sacrifices and apologizing for taking the liberty I have for granted.
I am very grateful to be born in such an inclusive and culturally rich country and I hope to make this a better and brighter place.
Jai Hind !
