Rayna-

I could not get rid of the relief I felt as Alex walked in.

I continued to look at him as if he was the sun spreading warmth all around, until Zion said, " Alexander, please keep all the things here and then leave, I need to get somethings cleared with Miss..." while being extremely tensed as he looked at me expectantly.

I stammered after a rather awkward pause, "Ah... yeah, Rayna ... I mean Miss Summers. You can call me Ray though."

"Ray", Zion repeated in his extremely British accent, as if it were a rather exotic name. He paused a little with his eyebrows slightly scrunched together tasting my name.

He paused a little and then said in the same I-am-better-than-thou way, "Well Ray we need to talk", and then his eyes shot towards Alex, "alone", he said in with an amused charming smile but there was something cold in his voice that left no room for argument.

Alex kept all the things on the table next to the bed and left without a word.

Looking at Zion's tensed form, the idea of being alone with him was not so appealing and it scared me.

Frankly, the world is a scary place. Molestation, rape, and murders were merely the beginning of the terrors it held.

The sight of Zion staring at me with those wild eyes of his, in the morbid silence occupying the room in its entirety, wanted me to jump out of the window.

I felt panic rise in me as the seconds passed under his intense gaze.

He said with a bemused face, "Stop squirming, I will not cause you any harm. And you might consider to stop acting too. You are not as good at it as you might think. Tell me your true intentions and I might help you out. I am a Duke after all."

I chuckled a little as he said the last line. I was not surprised to hear about him being the Duke or the existence of Dukes at all, I mean it was the eighteenth century people.

I was rather relieved to hear this, the Duke willing to help me out, well I think I might survive here. But I was not naïve enough to think that he did not have his own intentions for helping me out. He was no fool either I mean he did figure out that I was acting but instead of being wary of me, he clearly did not see me as a threat. I guess that was because of the position women held in this time period.

I did not know what powers did a Duke hold, all I knew that they were pretty high up in the aristocracy. But being in Duke's good graces was definitely nice.

After having thought of this matter, I said, "I am from a land far away. I got lost and somehow ended up here. I have no place to go to."

He listened carefully and his eyes glowed as if he had just hit a jackpot.

He said in a snobby and slow voice, " You can stay here, I will provide you with food, water and clothing but you must not be seen by anyone else. I have been abroad so I do not mind your appearance but most of the people here haven't. The last thing I need right now is the rumor of appearance of a witch on my estate to circulate."

I looked at him with wide unblinking eyes. This was too easy to be true. There definitely was some loophole here. I did not mind being alone at all. This arrangement was too perfect.

I simply nodded at his proposal. I will think of the loopholes later. I needed food right now. I looked on the table. It had something in a bowl and a slice of cake.

Zion seemed to have noticed my gaze and said, "I have some chicken broth and blueberry cake for you"

"I do not eat meat", I said as I reached for the cake.

He looked at me with raised eyebrows, "You are very peculiar. But then it all might be the customs of your land." He added rather thoughtfully but he did not ask me where I was from. This piqued my interest.

He continued to look at me as I slowly ate the cake, taking in all the details, he himself was drinking the broth. I guess he must have stayed with me the entire time.

My cynical self could not help but ask, "Don't you want to know where I am from?"

He sighed softly before saying in a serene voice, "No, I don't. I don't care about it as long as you are here."

I did not understand what he was trying to say.

I asked yet again, " What do you get by helping me?"

This made his lips twist into a mocking smile but his demeanor remained the same, "You do not trust the world much, do you?"

"Not at all. Everyone is looking for something. And I am pretty sure helping was something you were not looking for. So why do it?"

"You are right. I am always looking for amusement and keeping you here, in this otherwise bland place is going to provide me with plenty of it." He said.

Even though he did look like a guy who would stir trouble just for the fun of it, I was not completely convinced by this explanation of his.

He confused me, sometimes he seemed to be super intense and sometimes he felt like the class clown.

It felt like he was struggling with his own personality, trying to find his own place in this crazy world.
