The sun crept upon Hawkins slowly at around 6:00am. Joyce had left a few windows open during the night to let the air out a bit due to there being so many people in it, which lead a summer morning breeze throughout the house. It was refreshing. She took a breath in and breathed out heavily; the house was still silent, though Joyce was still awake, she hadn't caught a wink of sleep that night; she was too busy thinking about the night before: okay so tomorrow I need to buy El a bed, which I can not afford, she can share a room with Will. We need to go back to the cabin at some point to get El's things but I'll have to wait until she's ready to do that. El's leg...if only Hop were here, he'd know what to do.

She slowly got out of her cozy warm bed at the crack of dawn, and quietly slipped her white fluffy slippers on (which Hopper got her for her birthday) and her dark blue dressing gown, making sure to not only not wake Will up, but everybody else. The walls were thin and they needed sleep. She quietly opened her bedroom door, though the house was old and everything made a noise. Cringing as it squeaked, she gently shut it behind her.

As she made her way to the old kitchen and living room, she looked to her left to see Will's bedroom door wide open, and a sleeping Mike and El inside. They both were clearly too frightened to close the door. Joyce just took a moment to look at them all cuddled up together, Mike's arms wrapped around her torso and his chin on the top of her head. She smiled. She was happy that El had someone like Mike who loved her and cared about her, and she knew how much Mike was going to be there for her during this time, which eased her worries slightly.

The sound of birds chirping quickly snapped her out of her daydream and she continued slowly stepping into the kitchen and living room, nearly having a heart attack after hearing any sound due to being so shook up. As she stepped in, she saw four kids fast asleep on the couch and floor. She decided to make herself, Jonathan and Nancy (who she knew would be up soon) three huge cups of coffee, which is something they would all need to face the painful day ahead. As she waited for the coffee to brew she placed her elbows on the counter and ran her hands through her matted hair, letting a few salty tears escape her puffy eyes, then more, and then more, until she was nearly completely sobbing and then-

"Morning mom."

Joyce quickly wiped her tear-stained cheeks and turned around to see a tired Nancy and Jonathan, whose faces quickly dropped as they saw the look on her face. "I-is everything okay mom?" Jonathan said rushing over to her and putting his hand on her shoulder.

"Everything is fine honey, I'm just thinking. I made you guys a c-coffee i-if you want it." She gave the pair a fake smile as she took her own coffee and sat down at the table quickly so that they wouldn't ask anymore questions. Both Nancy and Jonathan went ahead and took the coffees and sat down with her, sharing worried glances as Joyce gazed out of the window. They all sat in silence, wanting to talk, but not having anything to say.
