I ran downstairs to meet my dad for breakfast. "Morning sweetheart." My dad smiles before kissing my forehead and handing over a plate of pancakes. "Thanks daddy." I smile and I slip into a seat. My Father takes a seat opposite me with his plate. "How is the case coming along?" He asks as he cuts a small piece of the pancake and pops it into his mouth. "I got a lead." I say proudly and My Dad cheers for me. "Mary Walker. She was Jazzy's sworn enemy." I continue. "That's fantastic. I told you that you can do it." He says and I smile widely.
"Anyways, I got another case. Another murder. God, America is going out of control." My Father sighs shaking his head, as he passes me a document. I agree with him readily as I study the piece of document. "An old man? For pete's sake!" I cry out. "Ria. Read the name carefully." My Father says softly. "Bruce Dale? Yeah so?" I ask. Who is he? "Ria. He's Justin's grandfather." My Father finally tells me after a minute of silence.
I gasp aloud. "J-Justin's grandfather?" I choke and he nods. I read through the paper again, "Poisoned? He was poisoned?" I read. This is just utterly impossible. "I've to see Justin now." I say as I stand up. "Don't. He's broken. Talk to him tomorrow. Let him calm down. Go and see Mary first." My Father advices and I sigh out heavily. I grab my car keys and bag. "Bye daddy. Love you." I shout as I head towards the front door.
"Love you too babygirl!" He shouts back and I walk outside of my house. "Thought I will find you here." A husky voice says interrupting me from my daze. I snap my head up to spot Justin leaning against a Black Rangerover. My eyebrows crinkles in confusion.
I run towards him and hug him tightly. "I'm so sorry for your grandfather." I say softly and he sighs before snaking his arms around my waist. "I gave up Ria. I don't know who is doing this but I swear I'll murder them." He says, the anger clearly building up in him.
I pull away, "Hey hey please. I don't need you behind bars and I definitely don't need Jason McCann alive again." I tell him and he chuckles. "People loved McCann." He smirks and I roll my eyes. "Well, I don't." I say as I get into his car. "Where too?" Justin asks as he guns his engine.
"Mary Walker's." I answer and he nods before driving out of my driveway. He drives me towards a yellow house and stops me outside. "I'll be waiting." He says and I nod as I get out. I walk up the porch and ring the doorbell, waiting. The door opens to reveal an old woman staring at me curiously. "Hello, I'm Detective Ria Tyson. I'm here to speak to Mary Walker." I introduce myself as I hold up my detective pass. "Oh why hello. Welcome." She smiles and steps aside allowing me to enter the furnished house.
"Mary!" The old woman calls out and a girl about my seventeen runs down. Her straight raven black hair hung loosely past her shoulders. "Uhm hello?" She says. I show her my pass and ask her to sit down. She gulps and nervously fiddles with her fingers. I start up the recorder and smile at her.
"You have been hating on Jazzy for as long as I know. Why do you hate her?" I ask. She gulps, "Well. I never liked her. She has always been really cocky and arrogant. Ever since Justin made it big she became even more cockier because the whole school literally worshipped the ground she walked on." She says.
"But what did she do to you?" I press on. "Nothing. I guess I was just so jealous of her. She had everything. A famous brother, boyfriends, friends, good grades." She sighs out and I just stare at her. I knew how she felt. "Okay. So you never expressed any hate towards her?" I ask and she shakes her head.
"No, I was too scared. As I said, everybody worships her." She says and I nod. "Any attempts?" I ask, raising my brow. "None and I can promise you that." She promises, the sincerity projecting clearly in her voice. I nod and stop the recorder. "Okay, thanks." I smile, exchange pleasantries and walk out towards the waiting Range Rover.
"What happened?" Justin asks as soon as I get in. "A lot." I shrug and he nods, driving off. "Where too?" He asks. "My home. I would like to listen to the tape again." I say. Silence envelopes us again and it is definitely driving me mad. Justin drives into my house's driveway and stops the car.
"Thanks so much and I am really sorry." I whisper. "I'd do anything to hold my sister and grandfather again." He sighs, tears pricking around his eyes. I hug him once again and pull away. "Stay strong for everyone. My father and I will crack this case and that's a promise. " I promise. "Thanks Ria." He smiles softly and I get out watching him drive away.
