Clary and Jace were lying in bed, still asleep, holding on to each other as the light started streaming in the window, hitting them and warming them. Clary was off work at the coffee shop that day, but Jace had to go into his parent's company, as that was where he was placed. After he had finished interning and had turned eighteen, they kind of forced him into running a portion of their company.
Forced meaning, they told him if he didn't work them, then they would make sure that he never worked anywhere. They told him that he owed them for everything he ever had growing up, and this was the way he was going to make up for it all. He was told that he would be managing the corporate side of all of it. The small businesses they sponsored; Jace was in charge of dwindling down which ones they should invest in, which Celine and Stephen gave the final say on, and the money/bookkeeping part of it. He had to work Monday through Friday every week, and they told him that he would be working in the office, but of course, Jace is defiant. He had his days where he would work from other places, like the day he got Clary to go out with him. And it wasn't like they didn't notice; they just didn't care. As long as he did it and Celine and Stephen came out on top, they didn't care. They didn't pay attention. They were always too absorbed in their own worlds to pay attention to their son. But every so often, Jace figured he would give Clary some breathing space so that he didn't smother her and would work from the office. Besides the fact, that if he didn't work from there most of the time, they would start getting suspicious. And the last thing Jace or Clary wanted, was them to try and intervene in their relationship. They had no knowledge of it at all. But this was one of the days that Jace was working in the office, only he was supposed to be there by eight in the morning.
Also, being in his position, he made his own money off the company, but he got to pick employees who got to work there and with him, so he hired Isabelle and Alec to work with him too. He decided that if they wanted to work there, he would let them, and he did it for selfish reasons too. They were the only highlights he had when he was at work.
Jace rolled around a bit in bed as the light struck his face. When his eyes opened, he smiled as Clary was curled into his side with the light streaming over her face. Her nose crinkled and her eyes clenched as she started waking up. Jace just watched her wake up and when her eyes opened and landed on him, she shook her head.
Jace knew that adorable head shake. It meant stop staring at me like that. But he couldn't help it, he couldn't get enough of looking at her. So instead of looking at her longer, he leaned down and kissed her softly, which she returned. Reaching around her, he pulled her closer to him and cradled her head in his hand. Clary's arm went around his neck and pulled him in closer to her. Jace slid his tongue over her bottom lip, asking sweetly for permission, which she gave him.
Her fingers tangled into his hair, as he ran his tongue along hers, and they intertwined and danced along each other. Jace leaned in to deepen the kiss when his phone started going off. He wanted to ignore it. He was going to ignore it, but Clary pulled away, her eyes bright and her lips smiling. "You should probably answer that," she smirked at him.
Jace groaned and reached over for it. Caller ID read that it was Alec calling him. He slid the bar over on his iPhone and answered it, pressing it to his ear, "Yes?"
"Where are you? Your parents are looking for you? And I think your mom is going to have a conniption fit." His voice was tense on the other side of the line.
This made Jace pull the phone away for a second and check the time. It read eight thirty in the morning. "Shit, I'm sorry. I'll get there here in a little bit, just tell them that I'm late because I'm-" Jace was drawing blanks on what to say.
