I wake up, and it takes me a moment to understand where I am. But when I do, I practically jump up, and wince as I pull against the stitches in my side. Mom and Dad are in there, and I realise that someone must've stitched me up. When I look around, I realize I'm not in my house, like I thought. No, we are in a new place, a place I don't understand.

"Where are we?" I ask.

"In the in-between," says Seraphina.

"That's not exactly an answer," I tell her. She chuckles.

"Anya Lee and I are here, as your friends. the Others, caught us. All of us."

"How'd they manage that?" I ask.

"Caused a huge ass explosion," says Seraphina.

Mom snorts. "You could say that."

I frown and shake my head. "You know ... maybe we could turn this into something good."

"How?" asks Seraphina.

"By turning our luck around," I say, and my Mom looks at me, a quizzical look about her. "All we have to do is get out of this room, and then we can cause a little chaos."

"Well, lucky for you, I am good at getting out of places like these," says Seraphina, a grin on her face. She then presses her hand against the wall in front of her.

"What is she doing?" Mom asks.

"She is able to control the vibrations in the world. She's able to manipulate how hard things vibrate, and thus, she can set things on fire, or freeze them."

"That's cool," Dad says.

"Aww, thanks," says Seraphina.

Then, I hear the sound of crackling, and then I look up as the wall crumbles under her hands, and then she steps back, and we see that the hole she created is huge.

Sadie goes through first, then Seraphina, then my parents, then me. We slip into a tunnel system under the prisons, and Dad used his illusion ability to create balls of fire that light the way.

As we continue forward, the sound of footsteps overhead pound hard, making us all look up at the dark ceiling. Then, we reach the end of the tunnel, and emerge into the woods of this compound, but unfortunately, we are caged in still.

"We can't even fly," Dad says.

I look up at the cage wrapped around the outside area we're in. Dad steps closer to Mom, shielding her from something I can't see, 'cause he's so damn tall. But when he steps to the side a little, I see a man standing in the tunnel in front of us.

"Who's that?" Seraphina asks, stepping in between me and the man. Dad and Mom are in front of me, but they aren't exactly in between us.

"That's my dad," Sadie whispers.

I gasp. There, standing in front of us, is indeed Sadie's father, John. John brandishes a knife and then I realize he is holding several strips of metal and wearing them. He is standing tall and dark, and then he throws his knife right at Mom.

Dad flares his wings, and then Sadie uses her telekinesis and knocks John and his metal shrapnel back against the tunnel wall. Then, she brings her hands out in a butterfly shape, and John is thrown to the ground.

"Anya Lee? Are you okay?" Dad asks.

I gasp. There's a bloody hole in Mom's side. She gasps in shock as she looks down at her wound. She then slumps against Dad, who picks her up.

"We need to get out of here," Dad says.

"I don't know how to get out of here," says Sadie.

"I do," says Seraphina. She raises her hands and then there's a pulse of energy and then it blasts into the area in front of us, and the bars of the cage start to vibrate. Then, John tries to get up, but the bars simply fall apart, and the cage starts to break apart, opening up a slot for us to fly through.

I flare my wings and wrap my arms around Seraphina. Dad takes flight first, carrying an unconscious Mom. Then, as Sadie uses her telekinesis to carry herself over the ground fast, so she can fly with us, John grabs her wrist and throws her to the ground.

Sadie cries out and there's a loud boom as energy explodes out of her mind, and the energy knocks John out cold.

"Go, run!" she cries.

Sadie shoots up past me and I carry Seraphina into the fresh air and out of there.

But we aren't home free yet ...
