Amy ran down the road that lead out of Twinleaf Town. Up ahead, she found Barry and Melanie waiting for her, a little bit past the sign that read 'Leaving Twinleaf Town. Now entering Route 201.'
"Hey Melanie, Barry!" Amy yelled to her friends.
"Hey, Amy!" Melanie and Barry shouted at the same time.
Melanie and Barry walked up to Amy.
"So what's this great idea of yours, Barry?" asked Amy.
"Well, the 'Search for the Red Gyarados' special got me to thinking that there's a distinct possibility that Lake Verity could have a Pokemon just like that," said Barry. "So, we'll be heading out for the lake to see if there is one."
"That sounds like fun," Amy said. "Let's head out to Lake Verity!"
Amy, Melanie, and Barry ran down the west road to Verity Lakefront. They soon came to the entrance to the lake.
Melanie ran ahead of Amy and Barry to look at the sign posted in front of the entrance. "Hey guys, look at this. Did you know that Lake Verity is known as the 'Lake of Emotions'." she asked.
"Really? How do you know that?" Barry asked.
Melanie pointed to the sign. "Says so on the sign," she said.
Amy and Barry looked at the sign as well. It read 'Lake Verity ahead, also known as 'The Lake of Emotions'. Then the trio started to walk into the lake entrance.
"Let's find us a red Gyarados!!" shouted Barry.
"Yeah!" Amy and Melanie pumped their fists in the air.
A couple of feet in, they came to a sudden halt. At the lake's edge stood a tall old man with white hair and a boy around Amy, Melanie, and Barry's age, with blue hair and a red hat.
"There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary here either," said the boy.
"Hm, I may have been mistaken," said the man. "Something seems to be different this time than before, but..." He trailed off. "Let's head back to Sandgem Town, Lucas."
Lucas nodded and picked up his backpack from the ground. Lucas and the man started toward the entrance where Amy, Melanie, and Barry were standing.
"Oh, excuse us," said the man. Amy, Melanie, and Barry moved out of the way.
"Sorry about him, guys," Lucas said apologetically. "Pardon me." He quickly walked past Amy and Melanie.
As he went past them, Amy noticed Melanie staring after him, smiling for some reason. Lucas and the man disappeared.
"What was that all about?" Barry wondered.
"Don't worry about it, Barry," said Amy. "It's none of our business, whatever it was."
"Huh?" Melanie looked toward the lake.
"What is it, Mel?" Barry asked.
Melanie suddenly ran past Amy and Barry.
"But Mel..." said Amy
"What?" Melanie asked, turning around. She now stood at the edge of the tall grass.
"You shouldn't be going into the grass. We don't have any Pokémon of our own yet."
"Don't worry, Ames," said Melanie, waving her hand dismissively. "We're not going to be here long enough for any Pokémon to attack us. Just come and check this out."
Amy and Barry gave each other a curious look and walked up to Melanie. She walked into the grass and the other two followed. On the ground was...
"A briefcase?" Amy and Barry asked at the same time.
"Those people must have forgotten about it and left it here," said Melanie
"So what are we supposed to do with it then?" Barry asked.
The girls shrugged.
"We could try to deliver it to them," Amy said.
"But who are they exactly?" Melanie asked. "I heard that kid Lucas say 'professor' but that doesn't really tell us anything."
Suddenly, loud flapping sounds surrounded them and three black and white flying Pokémon appeared from the trees. The Pokémon surrounded Amy, Melanie, and Barry.
"They're Starly!" Melanie yelled.
Barry quickly opened up the briefcase. "Look! There are Poké Balls in here. We can battle the Starly with the Pokémon inside of these."
Barry grabbed the Poké Ball in the middle, Melanie grabbed the one on the right, and Amy took the one on the left. They all faced a Starly.
"Go, Poké Ball!" the three of them shouted.
