--- Xander's POV ---

I can't stand parties. A bunch of sweaty idiots grinding on each other, with music so loud your eyeballs vibrate, is not my kind of fun.

Didn't seem like Fox's idea of fun either. He kept shooting everyone who came near him cautious looks.

Whenever someone tried to hold a conversation, he would nod and agree with whatever they were saying, just to get that person to go away as soon as possible.

It was hard to watch.

"Why are you so awkward?" I asked.

"I'm not awkward." The demon replied defensively.

A middle-aged man stepped forward, moving his arms to the beat of the music. "This is a great party, Your Highness."

No doubt looking to get with the popular people. Which, in this world is apparently the rich people. Not much different than the one I come from.

"Yes, it's awesome." Fox said lamely, offering an uneasy smile.

They exchanged a few more words, before the man finally got the hint and left.

"Yeah, not awkward at all." I leaned against the wall.

"Alright, I guess I'm... A little uncomfortable right now." Fox rubbed his arms, stepping closer to me. "I'm just not a fan of lots of people I don't know close to me. Also, I hate loud noises."

"Huh. Who would've guessed. The person who screams in terror whenever the lunch bell goes off in school is afraid of loud noises."

"Hey! I don't scream in terror, I'm just a little startled. And I didn't say I was afraid." The younger boy explained, sticking a finger into my chest.

"Too bad. That means I won't be able to ever to take you to a club sometime?"

He laughed, "Maybe. You'll have to protect me."

'Maybe' is better than a no.

"Cute." I murmured under my breath.

"Huh?" He tilted his head to the side. "What'd you say?" His long silver eyelashes made a weird tingle run through my body.

"Nothing. Were you checking out my muscles earlier?"

His eyes widened, and he looked at the ground, reddening. "No."

"Sure."

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

Raiden and Aither appeared, both sweaty and grinning like fools.

"Come on, dance! This music is awesome!" Raiden crowed, spinning Aither around. Aither laughed and stumbled, nearly falling over.

"Yeah, dance with us!"

"No thanks, Raither. I'm good." I crossed my arms. My spot on the wall was comfortable, and I had a good view of all the exits.

You know, just in case someone puked all over my shoes. I'd need to know where the closest exit was so I could go outside to bury their body quicker.

"Do you know where I could find a shovel?" I asked Aither.

"What?" He cupped a hand around his ear. "I can't hear you!"

"Never mind."

The couple pranced back into the crowd.

"Shit, they better bring the cake out soon. If we let them dance like this for too long it might turn into an orgy." Fox muttered, anxiously trying to look over the crowd.
