"Sir, are you sure you made a reservation?" The doorman glanced at their group wearily. Seonghwa was correct, they were at a five-star restaurant... the most expensive restaurant in the city. They were all dressed rather inappropriately for the occasion, but no one seemed to care. Except the man before them.
"Yes I'm very sure." Yeosang was evidently growing frustrated.
"Name then?"
"Kang Yeosang." The man then froze up. He was barely even able to splutter out a sentence, opening the door and allowing them to enter. It was only then that San realised who Yeosang was.
His family was one of the richest in the world.
"You guys can order whatever." Yeosang stated nonchalantly, opening a menu and scanning the options. They'd been designated to a large round table, with too many knives and forks to keep track of and at least three different crystal glasses each. Seonghwa sat beside Yeosang on one side, and San was pulled by Yeosang to sit on the other side.
Then Wooyoung sat beside San.
He felt his breath catch in his throat as he tried to act chill. The others sat down, with Yunho next to Wooyoung, then Mingi then Hongjoong and finally Jongho. San decided that his menu was the best distraction, lifting it up so no one could see his panic.
"You blind or something? Why're you holding the menu so close to your face?" Wooyoung pressed a finger to the crease of the menu, pulling it down so he could see San's likely flushed face.
"For reading yeah..." San said, as it was the excuse he'd come up with for his work glasses.
"Then why aren't you wearing them?"
"I-I forgot." San felt like he was about to implode, the nerves rendering his ability to talk useless. Wooyoung leaned even closer to San, studying his features.
"Why're you so nervous?" San didn't expect to be called out like that, spluttering even more as he tried to construct a sentence.
"You're pretty." Oh god, that was definitely not what he'd meant to say. Even Wooyoung looked shocked at that statement, eyes widening a fraction.
"Thanks, you too." Wooyoung then leaned back, picking up his menu and looking over the options. Now finally able to function a little better, San realised that he didn't know what most of the items on the menu were. It had been quite a while since San had eaten something that didn't come from a noodle cup.
"Am I the only one who doesn't know what any of this is?" Mingi whispered loudly.
"Oh thank god I'm not the only one." San sighed, giving Mingi an air high-five across the table.
"I think you'll like this." Yunho pointed to one of the items on Mingi's menu. "It's just sushi, dim sums and some other stuff. It's a share platter so I'll eat it with you."
"No offence but this literally costs more than my monthly rent. And I live in a three bedroom house." Mingi winced at the price, but again Yeosang waved it off.
"I promise I can pay for it all." Yeosang said, though most of the group still didn't look convinced.
"I'll help you pay." San offered, giving Yeosang a knowing look. He could also summon money whenever he needed to, but he'd never spent it on something like this before. Yeosang smirked slightly, nodding his agreement. "Then I'll have the..."
"San you just said you don't know what any of this is." Seonghwa said in exasperation, making San feel sheepish.
"You should get this." Wooyoung leaned over and pointed to an item on San's menu. Again San felt himself go into a panic, but relaxed as best he could. It was some sort of pie. "Trust me it's good."
"But what's in it?" San didn't really recognise the ingredients, and had Wooyoung explain it to him. A waiter arrived soon after, and they all ordered.
"So who's excited for the movie night?!" Mingi was far too loud for a nice restaurant, and earned an immediate smack to the back of the head from Hongjoong.
"Yes, but be quiet." Hongjoong scolded him, Mingi pouting childishly.
"Hey, it's ok Gi. Just remember there are other people yeah?" Yunho gently ran his fingers through Mingi's hair in the same spot that had been smacked. San didn't need his glasses to know what colour their string would be. He was already formulating how to get them to become closer when a hand came into contact with his arm, eliciting a little slap sound.
"No work thoughts at the dinner table." He scolded, smiling at San's clear shock at getting caught. A little pout overcame San's lips, and he sank back in his chair.
"You ok?" Wooyoung gently rested a hand on San's arm, sending him into a blind panic. His mind screamed to get away from Wooyoung, save himself and keep the life he'd built for just that little bit longer. Yet his heart argued that he should simply kiss Wooyoung right then and there.
Then that string flared up in San's mind again.
Signifying that his feelings were entirely one-sided.
Again angelic magic flared over San's skin, causing him to snatch his arm away from Wooyoung and stare pointedly at the table.
He needed to get a grip.
Of course things would not go his way. Of course Wooyoung was meant for someone else.
He was a Cupid, love was not designed for him to possess.
His skin was glimmering faintly, though he kept his arms where no one could see. His back itched with the nagging presence of his wings trying to burst free.
"San, calm down." Yeosang frowned, gently placing a hand on San's arm. Yet he immediately jolted away, the angelic magic searing his flesh.
"Shit I'm so sorry." San whispered, eyes wide as Yeosang waved off his concerns.
"It's my fault. I'm the one who thought it was a good idea to touch a magically charged angel." Yeosang laughed lightly, hand already completely healed. San would have loved some of the powers that came with being an demon.
"Dinner!" Mingi yelled excitedly as food was placed before him. Again Hongjoong went to smack him, but Yunho quickly stopped him.
"Mingi, what did I just say?" Yunho sighed, giving Hongjoong a pointed look before pinching Mingi's cheek adoringly. "You gotta learn to be aware of your surroundings."
"Sorry Yunho..." Mingi visibly deflated, looking at the table dejectedly while everyone else started eating.
"Here, try this one." Yunho then fed Mingi a piece of sushi, grinning while Mingi ate silently.
"This is so good!" Mingi whisper-yelled, finally not disturbing the entire restaurant.
"I know right!" Yunho then started feeding Mingi sushi.
"Ok this isn't even considered work anymore. Yunho's whipped." Seonghwa joked.
"What'd you think?" Wooyoung asked San suddenly, almost giving him a heart attack. Wooyoung's eyes were so sparkly up close. And his smile was almost blinding.
"I-it's good. Th-anks for s-suggesting it." San felt warm, and he internally cursed his lack of composure. He then went back to his food, blatantly ignoring everything around him in an attempt to keep himself relatively stable. His next magic spike could be even more unpredictable, and he couldn't afford to allow his friends to find out about him, or worse get hurt. So now he would be silent. Mind his own business. And pretend he wasn't sitting next to Jung Wooyoung.
