After, the little girl, he'd learned was named Ava, had such an effect on him. Lachlan was enthralled by the beautiful little girl. She had awoken his dead heart, literally! Why? How? Is she a witch? He thought to himself. So many questions he had to know the answer to. He needed to know more about Ava and Lachlan was determined to find out. Lachlan decided to stay and investigate how a little girl had so much control over a 900-year-old vampire?
Lachlan needed to be inconspicuous and bought a small farmhouse close to the Mississippi River. He didn't need nosey neighbors poking around. Farmers and farm hands are the only people for miles around. Lachlan felt lucky the human girl was in a very small town with a population close to 3,000. He needed a quiet place out of town to live. With his vamp speed he could be in town in minutes.
Through the years he kept a watchful eye on Ava from afar, always watching, always protecting, always learning about her. Wherever she was Lachlan wasn't far behind. The little girl that made his heartbeat.

11 Years Later
Lachlan's POV******
When you watch someone for 11 years you learn a lot about them. You learn every torrid detail about them. Every embarrassing moment, all of their happy and sad times. Every tear and smile that cross their face.
There's only one problem, Ava's embarrassing moments, her big smile her tears I need it all. Everything about her I learn makes me want her more. After years, 11 years, I would say I'm obsessed with her. I still don't understand how or why she makes my heartbeat when I'm close to her. I can't stay away from her. At first I would try to stay away from her. But nothing could pull her adorable face from my thoughts. Nothing could get her out of my head. She was part of me and did not know it. I had to protect her, I couldn't stop myself even if I wanted to. At this point I'm too far gone, too lost in her beauty to ever want to be found.
Now I need her like humans need oxygen. Why do I have feelings for her? Why do I need her so much? Why can't I stay away? She can't be my "beloved". She found me years ago but I left. I don't know. All I do know is I need her.
It's Spring, 1992, May 24th and School was out for the summer. I've made a decision. Ava will be 18 in September and It's time we were formally introduced. This time I will not make her forget me. I'm done with watching her from the shadows. I look 22, 18 and 22 isn't too much of an age difference. Too bad it's 971 years but, I will explain all of that to her much much later. I need her I'm tired of waiting.
Lachlan was thinking to himself; I have a good cover story, this will work. I have had a many years put my plan into motion. I will be a teacher fresh out of college. I'm from London, I think that best suits my accent. I will tell her I always wanted to come to America and I needed a job. Perfect cover until the day I know she loves me then I will tell her the truth. I should tell her up-front but, who would believe I'm a vampire that fell for her while stalking her for 11 years.
