The next morning I awoke to the sounds of absolute chaos. I didn't even bother changing out of my pajamas as I opened the door to my room and peered out. The first thing I noticed was the delicious smell wafting through the air. The second thing I noticed was the sound of objects being thrown at various speeds. I gingerly made my way downstairs and poked my head around the corner. A large box narrowly missed hitting me square in the face.
"Oi!" Sam shouted. "You nearly hit Tom's girlfriend in the face!"
"Sorry," Harry's voice called. I could hear him but I definitely couldn't see him.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"We're cleaning up from the party last night. Harry and I figured we'd make a game out of it. We didn't expect you to come downstairs so early though," Sam explained.
Just then Nikki flitted out of the kitchen. She stopped when she saw me and gave me a huge hug. "Good morning dear. Breakfast is almost ready. Would you do me a favor and go wake up Tom?"
I nodded in agreement before heading back upstairs. I was astonished that Tom could have slept through all of that racket from before. I figured it must be a regular enough occurrence that he was used to it. I knocked lightly on his bedroom door. When he didn't answer I knocked again a little louder. Silence was the only thing that greeted me. I slowly turned the knob and opened his bedroom door. Tom lay on his bed fast asleep. His blanket only covered his bottom half leaving his bare chest visible to me. I enjoyed my eye candy as I walked into the room.
Tom let out a small groan as I gently shook his shoulder. He only opened his eyes when I shook him with more force. No sooner had I seen his eyes open than he grabbed me and pulled me into his bed. I silently thanked the stars that I had decided to only leave his door open a crack as Tom threw his covers over the two of us.
"Good morning beautiful," he purred into my ear. I felt a chill go up my spine. The smile that spread across my face was unstoppable. Luckily my face was buried in his chest so he couldn't see the goofiness that was expression. As he buried his face in my hair he asked, "How was your sleep?"
"It was good. It would have been better with you," I replied.
Tom looked down at me with a playful smirk. "Wow. I leave you for a few months and you became two times as bold."
"Would you rather I go back to the way I was?"
"Not at all."
We stayed snuggled up under his covers for quite some time. It wasn't until Nikki called Tom by his full name and demanded our presence that we finally got up. Tom slid on a shirt and we headed down to eat breakfast with the family.
* * *
"I'm still not used to being on this side of the road," I commented. After breakfast I had showered and packed my things. We then bid his family good-bye and headed off to the condo. Now I sat in the passenger seat with Tessa's chin resting on my shoulder."It'll take a bit before you get used to it. It took me a while too when I first got to America," Tom responded.
I booped Tessa on the nose. She affectionately licked my finger. Houses whizzed by as we went down several roads. Finally we pulled onto a street filled with extremely nice looking red brick buildings. Tom hauled some of our things out of the trunk before leading Tessa and I into one of the buildings. He fumbled with the key until I finally got fed up and took it from him. I unlocked the front door and threw it open. Tessa took off into the house with us following close on her heels.
The condo was beautiful. A large black sectional stood in the center of the living room. A rectangular dark wood coffee table sat in front of the couch while matching end tables sat at either end. A ginormous flat screen TV hung on the wall. White cabinetry lined the kitchen walls. Black marble countertops adorned the counters and the large island that sat in the middle of the kitchen. The dining room and breakfast nook contained a matching set of dark wood tables. The one in the breakfast nook was smaller than the dining room one but just as beautiful.
I was mildly caught off guard by how nice the condo looked. I ran my hands across some of the furniture as I took everything in. Then I spotted the bedroom. My breath caught in my throat as I entered it. A large bed with a massive grey headboard sat against the north wall. A small reading nook was nestled into a large bay window on the west wall. The walls were grey and decorated with many paintings and photographs. A small chandelier hung in the center of the room casting light on all four walls.
I turned to Tom who had just returned from his second trip to the car. As he placed our things on the floor he registered the look of shock on my face. "Do you like it?" he asked playfully.
"Like it? I love it! It's so pretty!" I gushed.
Tom's grin only grew. "I'm glad you think so. My mom spent a lot of time decorating it. She kept asking me to send her pictures of your room so she could get a sense of what you liked."
"She did this all by herself?"
"Well... no. She and a bunch of her friends descended on the place as soon as I got the keys. I wasn't even allowed to come back in until they finshed."
I laughed. "Your mom is adorable."
"I'll be sure to tell her you said that. She was the most excited to meet you so I'm sure that'll make her extremely happy."
I blushed. "Was she really that excited?"
Tom nodded. "She talked about your visit more than I did. And the sheer amount of research she did was impressive."
Hearing how excited Nikki had been for my arrival made me very happy. I couldn't hide my smile as I went down to the car to help Tom finish bringing in our things.
