October 7
Wendy and I went to the mall today to meet up with Cherry. But she said she would be twenty minutes late. Wendy suggested we grab Frappe at Starbucks, and so we went in there. Starbucks drinks are so pricey. I always say I won't go there anymore, but I end up going anyway.
The twenty minutes passed, but Cherry was nowhere to be found. So we ended up sitting and waiting twenty more minutes. That was when my patience started to run thin.
I went to the bathroom to freshen up. And when I returned, I could see Cherry at our table, and there was also a guy that had his back to me. For a fraction of a second, I thought it was Oliver, but the guy had broader shoulders than Ollie and dark brown hair.
I headed there eager to find out what was going on and when Wendy saw me, she smiled brightly and went,
"Allie, come meet Cherry's older brother Wyatt."
When our eyes locked, I couldn't believe my eyes.
Surfer boy hottie!
Wendy had that look in her eyes. The one she always gets whenever she sees the Hemsworth brothers or a sundae with extra marshmallows. And I stood there with my eyes wide open, gaping at him like a fish out of water. Cherry pulled me down and sat me on the chair next to her. Then she started rambling, waving her hands around, her bright orange nail polish distracting me as she explained she was late because her car broke down and she had to ask her brother to give her a ride.
"So we meet again. Janice, right?" Wyatt smiled at me, flashing his dimples.
I was too shocked to speak. When he saw my startled expression, his face grew wary.
"We surfed together last week, don't you remember?" He asked, and I shook my head, then I nodded, then I shook my head again.
Bloody hell!
"So, wait! You and Cherry are friends?" His eyebrows rose in question.
"Who the hell is Janice? This is my friend Alice." Cherry said to her brother, looking at him like he's gone mad.
Wyatt frowned, looking at me, waiting for an explanation.
"You see, my name is actually Alice. I don't know why my sister referred to me as Janice or as her cousin." I chuckled awkwardly.
It was so embarrassing.
"You surfed what exactly? The internet?" Wendy laughed, eyeing me.
"More like the Ocean. Long story." I begged her with my eyes not to ask more questions, and she seemed to get a grip. But I knew from the look in her eyes an interrogation was inevitable.
"Alice, you never cease to surprise me." Cherry gave me an impressed nod. "You're such a daredevil!"
Turns out Wyatt is a senior at Mount Elda, where Cherry goes, and he is a professional surfer. He came first in the nationals two years ago when they were back in America. No wonder I caught the hang of it pretty quickly. I was thought by the best.
Wendy then got inquisitive. She wanted to know everything, about how he started surfing, how he got into competitions, how he managed to win. The pair of us just kept nodding and smiling like loons listening to him talk.
I must say he is so much hotter than I initially gave him credit for. The more I looked at him, the more I was mesmerized. And he is so easy going there wasn't a moment of awkwardness the whole time. Even though he gave off a goofy and playful vibe, he would turn serious and focused when he spoke about certain things. Or when something caught his attention.
