A Bathroom Catastrophe

September 16

I woke up early today, which is unusual for me since I usually sleep late on Sundays. But since I was already up, I wanted to take a bubble bath and catch up on some celebrity gossip from the Magazines Lydia had purchased this past week. But Mum was in my shower. There is something wrong with the plumbing in theirs, and it's been leaking all week.

I asked why she couldn't just use the bathroom in Lydia's or Simon and Louisa's room to shower, and she said,

"I didn't want to wake the kids up, and Lydia likes her privacy. You know how girls her age are."

"Yes, I do, mum," I said. "Because I am only a year-and-a-half younger than her, and I very much like my privacy as well."

She just laughed and said I didn't have to worry because she was about to call a plumber and get it fixed in the afternoon. But when she mentioned that idea to dad over lunch, he said,

"We are not paying a plumber for something so minor when I can just fix it myself."

So after we ate, we left him to it. And I locked myself in my room to Google my homework. Mum says we should not rely on the internet for our school work, but then, what are we supposed to rely on?

So I was working on that when I heard an explosion, and all of a sudden, mum started screaming. I don't even know how I jumped out of bed. I nearly sprouted wings and flew there. I was expecting to see dad's dead body or something. But guess what? The plumbing had busted, and their bathroom was FLOODING.

Mum and dad were slipping all over the place, trying to get it to stop. And Lydia just stood there at their bedroom door, watching with amusement. Simon and Louisa started playing as soon as they walked in, jumping around in the water and splashing each other, which made mum even more furious.

The water wouldn't stop drenching everything in sight. So dad went and shut the water off. But by then, the bathroom and their bedroom was already flooded. So mum said we all needed to step in and help dry the rooms.

Lydia immediately said she was going out because Benji's parents invited her over. So mum and dad let her leave. But before she left, she winked at me in this devious way, so I'm sure she just made it up to skip the labor.

The little ones weren't any help either. So I spent over three hours trying to clean up the mess with mum and dad. Nanna was asleep the entire time. She didn't even come out of her room after she got back from church late in the morning. Not that anyone would have expected her to help, but she would have been good for my morale. When we finally finished, I was exhausted. I wanted to finish doing my homework, but it was already time for piano lessons, and shortly after came dinner. Now it's almost midnight, and I just finished with my homework.

Note to self: Leave the house when dad says he's going to fix something.

Today was such a disaster. I overslept and missed the bus. Lydia usually gives me a ride to school when that happens because, as embarrassing as it is to admit, I failed my driving licenses test twice. And I don't want to ride my bike to school because last year this kid Riley Cooper almost run me over on purpose, and it was a traumatic experience. All his friends took pictures and laughed as I laid on the sidewalk, bleeding half to death. But then Harry saw the photos circulating at school and beat them up real bad. I love Harry!

Wendy passed hers with flying colours, but says she is terrified of driving, which means we both rely on other people for transportation at the moment.
