consequences

(Tuesday morning)

Caleb stands, towering over Brian. He balls up his fists. Brian rises to meet him eye-to-eye. "I can't take it anymore!" Caleb added.

"Caleb..." I added.

"Brian smirked "You gonna hit me? I'd like to see you try."

Caleb grabs Brian by the collar and holds up a fist. "Want to say that again?" Caleb says. Brian looks shocked for a moment... then he grins and punches Caleb in the stomach! He stumbles backwards. "Oof!" Caleb groans.

"Thanks for giving me an easy shot." Brian said smirking.

"Oh no you don't!" Caleb adds. Students start to crowd around as Caleb runs at Brian and hits him in the jaw. Chanting erupts.

Morgan starts chanting "Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!" I push my way to the centre and I yank Caleb out of the way just a Brian attempts another punch, I turn to face Brian keeping my arms out so Caleb couldn't get past. Despite his protests! Brian tries swinging again and catches my jaw instead of Caleb I double over in pain and notice he is in pain also as his hand kept going and he ends up punching a desk.

Emma says "is he okay?"

Brian shouted "I'm Fine. totally fine. Now--"

Morgan points the door, where Ms. Isa, the vice principal, is standing. Everyone gets quiet.

"What are you doing?" Vice principal Isa shouts. She gestures to me, Caleb and Brian. "You three come with me."

"Me? But --" I add.

"Come with me. Principal Hughs will know what to do with you." Isa adds. We take our things and follow Ms. Isa to the principal's office. When we arrive Principal Hughs greets us with a warm smile.

"Good morning, children! How are you today?" Principal Hughs says.

"Principal Hughs, these three were fighting!" Isa adds.

Principal Hughs looks shocked "Oh my goodness! Did you get a boo-boo? I've got some Band-Aids in this drawer."

"Um, Principal Hughs" Isa says looking kind of disappointed.

"Right. Take a seat." Hughs says. We pull out chairs and sit down. An awkward silence fills the room as we all wait for Principal Hughs to go on. "Okay, we're all going to take turns and talk about why you're here." she smiles "what's your name, little girl on the left.

"Uh... Alexandria" I add.

"Alexandria, could you please tell us why you're here?" She adds.

"The fight.. I didn't do anything... I tried to pull Caleb out of the way and then got hit by Brian twice..." I added.

Caleb spoke up. "It's true. Brian and I were the ones fighting. Alexandria was only trying to stop us."

Then Brian added "But we're only here because she got involved."

"No, you're only here because you punched Caleb" I added. Then Brian faced me...

"Yeah, well, I wouldn't have done it if he hadn't gotten in my face!"

Caleb blocked his view of me and turned to Brian "I wouldn't have gotten in your face if you hadn't stolen my girlfriend!"

Then the vice principal shouts "SILENCE! All of you!" we all go quiet.

Principal Hughs looks down and then back up to us "I'm very disappointed in you, children. Don't you remember what Blurble the Turtle always says?"

I turn to face principal Hughs "Be nice to eachother?" I look confused. "I mean that's a nice sentiment, but--"

Principal Hughs intervenes "YES! You're smart children. I know you can be better than this.. Now, normally I would take away recess for a month, but we're trying a new tactic this year called 'positive reinforcement' the three of you will be required to give back to the school by working with Maria Flores on the homecoming committee!"
