Monday morning, before class...

"The lists are up! The lists are up!" Payton grins.

Instantly, a crowd forms around the bulletin board, with me and Emma in the back.

Myra shouts "I made the first-chair trombone!" she jumps up and down, a look of pure joy on her own face. I elbow my way to the front of the crowd and scan the list for my name.

"I'm the new running back!" I say overjoyed.

"Oh my gosh! Alexandria, Look!" Emma says pointing to a spot low on the list.

"Emma Hawkins... Kicker?..I guess you really impressed Coach at tryouts! Are you gonna accept? There's a chance you'll get tackled." I add looking at Emma.

"I... I think I will." Emma says... "If the coach thinks I can handle itm then so do I." she grins.

"I'm so proud of you, Emma." I say "and the best part is we'll be together!"

"Agreed. I wouldn't want to do this with anyone else." Emma says hugging me.

"We will be the most dynamic duo this school has ever seen!" I add grinning.

"Bravo, you two. Remind me to buy you a 'congratulations' card." Michael had said walking towards us.

"You know, it's sometimes hard to tell if you're being sarcastic or not." I say.

" Oh I'm definitely being sarcastic." Michael adds.

"I get it. You're Mr. 'I'm too cool to take place in extracurricular activities'. We're all very impressed." I say.

"Sounds like you got me pegged..." He starts but before I can say anything he adds "of course... if you actually want to get to know me, you could always come hang out with me and my friends at lunch."

"Wait... is that a genuine invitation? Or... are you being sarcastic again?" I add

"This time it's genuine. If you want to hang out, meet me outside after third bell." He says.

"In that case... I'll see you there." I add.

"You've got a habit of saying just what I want to hear." He smirks at me.
"Lucky you" I grin.

"See you at lunch" He says as he turns around and walks away.

Emma looks at me "Wow. Did he just... Are you going on a date with him?"

"I wouldn't exactly call it that. We're just hanging out." I add facing her.

"If you say so..." She says grinning.

At lunch, I meet up with Michael in front of the school.

"So where does the great Michael Martínezon go at lunch? Let me guess. An underground poker ring? A fight club? A... bar?" I say.

"Hop on my motorcycle and find out. Sorry, but I didn't bring an extra helmet." He smirks.

"I... I mean. My dad wouldn't want me to - -" I stammer.
"Relax. I'm messing with you. We're just walking over to the parking lot over there." He grins.

Michael escorts me to the parking lot, where a group of his friends are hanging out. They're listening to music on an amp hooked up to a phone and practicing skateboard tricks...

"Sup, Michael?" Morgan says.

"Brought some fresh meat?" Koh grins.

"Go easy on her guys, Alexandria is sensitive." He laughs.

"I don't know... she looks pretty tough to me." Wes smiles at me.

"Actually I am completely terrifying" I add.
