this was previously called "grow up!"

percy and annabeth are together with no powers. they try to hang out, but percy takes it childishly too far.

"I can't believe you!"

Percy waited for her response behind the door. He was grinning, leaning against it with crossed arms. He had to fight the urge to laugh at her, because Annabeth couldn't see him, didn't know he wasn't serious. He heard her socked feet thump, thump, thumping down the hallway, heard her exasperated sigh as she leaned against the door.

"Percy, come on. You're being stupid."

"I am not!" He yelled, and he had to cover his mouth to keep from snorting.

"You are too!" She yelled back, hitting the door with what sounded like her fist. "Percy, it's not real-"

"It is so! This is a serious matter!"

"Oh my Gods- Percy Jackson, open this door! "

"No!"

She sighed again, dramatically this time, and banged on the door. Slap, slap, slap.

"I'm not comin' out!"

"You're being a child!"

"You killed him, Annabeth!"

Percy slid down the door until he came to a stop, sitting on his knees. He grabbed a nearby pillow and wrapped his face in it, trying to suffocate the laughs so he didn't give up his act.

"Y'know what, Percy?" She asked. "I'm done. When you want to act like an adult, you let me know."

Percy almost expected her to walk away, but he heard Annabeth sit outside the door. He felt a little like those two Disney girls, (what were their names, Anna and Elfie?), the ones with the stupid song that his mom liked.

"Hey, Annabeth?"

"What, Percy?" She sounded annoyed.

He snorted, which almost gave him away. "Do you-"

"Do I what ?"

"Wanna, um." He giggled. "Do you wanna build a snowman?"

Percy waited for her response, and when Annabeth sighed, he broke out cackling. He practically howled as he stood up, opened the door, and found Annabeth sitting under his feet. She stood up with a scowl and he pulled her in for a hug, laughing into her shoulder.

Percy couldn't tell, but he thought Annabeth was smiling.

"What are you doing, Percy?" She asked. He could hear the smile in her voice.

"Hugging my best friend," he said, turning his head and kissing her temple. He put his forehead to hers and grinned. "Y'know, killing people won't always get you a kiss."

Annabeth rolled her eyes, and up this close Percy saw a ring of blue around her pupils. It made him smile, and she tilted her head. "What?"

"Did I ever tell you how beautiful you are?"

She exhaled a laugh and put her head against his chest. "Love you, too. Glad you're acting like an adult again."

Percy spun them in a circle slowly, humming. "Well, I'm still mad."

She hit his chest lightly, laughing. "Shut up, you know it wasn't a big deal."

"It really was, love."

She pushed him lightly, stepping back, but he grabbed her hand and spun her in a circle, like they were dancing. Annabeth laughed and pushed him again, but he dragged her with him.

"Percy," she said. "It was just an Operation game."

"Operation is not just a game, Annabeth!"

"Yes it is, Percy! It says so on the box!"

Percy started laughing again. When Annabeth realized he was kidding, she crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.

"You know what? We'll play again."

Percy scoffed. "Yeah, okay. You'll lose."

"Try me."

She was grinning confidently. Percy raised an eyebrow and walked to the table. Laying there on its red stand was the game, and the patient's red nose was lit up and the game itself was buzzing, the tweezers left on the metal strip from where Annabeth had lost.

Percy put the pieces he had gotten out back in their places, and then he smirked at Annabeth over the table. "Your move."

She laughed. "You're going down, Jackson."

Percy didn't answer as he watched her grab the tweezers. She steadied her hand, bent the tweezers down, and successfully removed the wishbone. Annabeth yelped happily and clapped, pointing to him and sticking her tongue out. "Ha! Going down, Percy, you're going down!"

"Yeah, alright, one piece doesn't confirm you as champion, you have to beat my score." Percy took the tweezers from Annabeth and bent over the board, looking for the bone. He found it, grabbed it, and pulled it out smoothly. "See? I can do one too."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, you just wait." She took the tweezers back from him and looked for the piece she wanted to extract. She found the wrench and decided to do that. Percy watched as she stuck the tip of her tongue out of her mouth to concentrate.  He smiled to himself- he couldn't help  it. Annabeth caught him staring and he looked down at his hands, ashamed.

Annabeth lifted the wrench out of the slot without hitting the buzzer. She laughed at him and added the token to her pile. Percy took the pincers from her hand and held it, and he tentatively looked up at her. She smiled at him sideways, almost like a "What're you looking at?

He shrugged and took the tool from her. He decided on the butterfly, grabbed it with the tool and dragged it up, hand only shaking slightly. It didn't trigger the buzzer.

He and Annabeth passed the tweezers back and forth two more times. She grabbed the apple and he grabbed the ice cream. After she had added the dog to her collection, it was Percy's turn.

He was bored. He didn't want to play anymore. As a result, he didn't even try. He just dropped the tweezers on one metal strip. The nose of the patient lit up red and the game table buzzed, rattling the pieces Percy and Annabeth had gathered.

Annabeth was confused, and Percy saw it in the furrowed brow she had. He grinned at her as he walked to her side of the table. The chairs were raised, almost like backed bar stools, and Annabeth was sitting criss-cross-applesauce in them. Percy walked to her, backed her into the table and buried his face in the crook of her neck, blowing a raspberry before leaning up and kissing her. She was smiling when he opened his eyes, and he grinned back.

"Not that I mind," she started, "but what was that for?"

"Well," he said, pressing his lips to her forehead. He talked against it. "I know I said before that killing people doesn't always get you a kiss, but I was hoping this time you'd make the exception for me."

"If it means this," she laughed, "then anytime, love."
