this was previously called "oops."

percy and annabeth go looking for a blue kitchen aid mixer, and when percy settles on a white one, he gets snappy about his baking.

Percy was stomping. Annabeth didn't know why.

They were in the store Bed, Bath and Beyond, looking for a very specific  tool to help Percy in his baking mission.

"Percy, love, does it have  to be blue? Your mom said we could use hers-"

"Annabeth, you don't understand. I can't use Mom's!"

"You can, though. A white mixer doesn't operate differently than a blue one."

"It does  though. I work better with the blue ones."

He wasn't looking at her. Though her hand was wrapped with his, he was walking two, maybe three strides ahead of her. It was almost like he was dragging her through the store.

"Percy, the way you bake, by the time you're done with the white one it'll be blue!"

He stopped and dropped her hand. When he turned to look at her, he looked a little defeated. "That wasn't funny, Annabeth."

She knit her eyebrows, then dropped her hands with a clap. "Okay, Percy. You go find a store employee and see if they'll help you. I'll wait here."

He sighed, but went off in search of help. Annabeth let out a breath she didn't know she was holding, then gathered her hair in her hand and stood there, exasperated.

It wasn't Percy's fault, she knew that. He was trying to have fun; this was the first time they'd hung out in weeks. That wasn't his fault, either. Annabeth was burying herself in books, trying to prepare herself for college in a few weeks. She knew she was ready, but a little voice in the back of her mind kept saying but what if you're not ? So she studied some more.

Percy wasn't like that- he didn't like to open a book, much less study ahead. He was doing what everyone else their age was doing during their last week of vacation- relaxing. Hanging out. Sleeping in. Giving themselves the things they wouldn't get during the school year. Annabeth couldn't relax, couldn't slow down, couldn't bring herself out of her school year funk. She'd isolated herself from Percy, and he just wanted some time with her, just wanted to make sure she was okay.

"I miss you, Annabeth,"  he'd said. "I just wanna make sure you're alright."

She was about to go and find him to apologize when he returned, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.

"Um, the people here- the employees wear blue, right?"

She rolled her eyes but nodded, walking to him and helping him find an employee. When they had dragged some poor lady through the Blue Mixer Debate and asked her where to find one, the lady frowned. "I'm sorry, but we don't have  a blue mixer."

"What." Percy's voice was so flat Annabeth couldn't tell if he'd asked a question or not.

"We don't have any left in the color you're looking for. We ran out yesterday."

"Are you serious?" Percy did the not-laughing laugh, the one he gave Annabeth when he was done fighting with her. "That's... that's preposterous! You don't have  a blue mixer? I'll call management, I can pull strings, you know-"

"That's enough, thank you ma'am for your help."

Annabeth had stepped on his foot when she strained her voice, and when she dismissed the employee she turned and glared at him. "What was that?"
