For Katie Conrad, words can't even begin to describe how great you were, rest in peace.

The bell rang calling Hartsent Middle School students to fifth period. Since my next class was right next to my previous one, this was the only chance I had to use the crusty old bathroom. Luckily, it was right across the hall from my fifth period. I slipped into the foul smelling restroom and stood in front of the mirror, admiring my shining pale skin and wavy copper-red hair. I was almost too tall to see my face in the mirror, since I'm 5'9" and everyone within a twenty mile radius is the size of a ten-year-old. I poked at my chubby, freckle infested cheeks and then remembered I had to pee and walked into a stall, all ready to do my thing.

A minute later, I was about to walk out of the stall, when I heard the door to the bathroom burst open and two sets of feet rush in. A body was slammed in to the wall closest to my stall.

"You think you're better then me? Just because you think everyone loves you?" an all too familiar voice hissed. I glared at the stall door and leaned against the cinder block wall, I knew exactly what monster waited on the other side. Riley Benton, grade A popular demon. Ten pounds of make up, a bottle of cheap perfume, and not an inch of humanity anywhere.

"News flash! Everyone hates you! You've been here for a month and you have yet to make a single friend! No one can stand your hideous face and god awful accent."

Oh she's talking to the new girl, Grace Wiltse. She got here a little under a month ago. Grace has been getting pretty popular lately, everyone thinks its cool that she came here from England. Except Riley. Riley can't stand all the attention Grace gained, and more importantly, all the attention she lost.

I wait in the stall as Riley continues to speak "And why the hell is your hair this color? It's horrifying! Blonde, really? It's all about the ombre now! On top of that you're so small no one can even see you! How's the whether down there? Chilly and alone? You're such a little..."

Riley stopped as the lights flickered. Sparks from the lights flew straight into her lopsided bun. I could smell the smoke coming from her burning hair, she screamed, running out of the restroom. The lights returned to normal and I stood there in a daze. Its happening again. Ever since my 13th birthday, where ever I go, lights flicker, street lamps go out, cars seem super charged. Oh, and fires just randomly start around me. I hear Grace leave the bathroom and I hurry to class, there's no way I'm gonna be late because of a little fire in some girl's hair.

The last bell of the day, time for me to escape Hartsent for a little while. So far today, four projectors failed to function, eight light fixtures burst, and the light in my science teachers hamster cage caught fire, burning poor little Jettles alive. So today has been moderately okay. Now you know why our school has so many fire drills.

After I collect my things from my locker, I walk out of the school and head towards the woods. There's a path through the forest that ends near my street. A few other kids from my neighborhood walk ahead of me. I usually walk with them since we grew up together and they pretty much trust me with their lives, but today I decide to walk behind them and enjoy my alone time.

I slapped a mosquito who had the nerve to land on my arm, and I noticed something move off to the left. A bush rustled near the creek and a bright blue light shines brightly in to my eyes. I held my arm over my eyes to shield the light, but I couldn't bring myself to turn my back to it. I walked forward. Great idea. I felt something hard hit the back of my head. The light drew closer as my vision blurred. I felt my limp body fall to the ground and everything went dark.
