~ Back at Berk~
* Stoick's POV*

'He really isn't coming back... He's probably eaten by that stupid dragon.' I muttered to myself while drinking a cup of yakmilk.

Over the past six months I came to believe Hiccup really flew away from Berk. How could he otherwise gotten of the island? All the boats were still at the docks. After I found out he ran away I send out search parties to comb out the entire island. But with no luck. Hiccup was nowhere to be found.

The thing that hurted me the most was that he was a traitor... How could he possibly throw his lot with them. Those who had killed his mother.

In the past months I wanted to hate my son for being a traitor, especially to his own dead mother. But I just couldn't, I can't get it over my heart.

Before I drifted farther into my thoughts, I heard a very familiar Viking coming to my house. A Viking with one wooden leg.

*knock knock *

'Come in Gobber' I say knowing it was him.

I heard the door opening and closing. 'How did you know it was me?' Gobber asked.

'You have a wooden leg and besides you're the only one who isn't frightened to be in my presence.' I say.

'Yeah, that's true.'

Ever since Hiccup is gone I was kinda.. moody. And if someone was near me and irritated me just A little. They were having some spiky objects headed there way. So most of my people stayed out of my way. I didn't blame them. but Gobber knows that I wouldn't hurt him. He's the closest thing I've left of a family.

By that time Gobber sat across me from the table.

'You know, you can't stay in your house forever Stoick. You have a whole village to lead. They need you.' Gobber sat while drinking from my cup of yak milk. Wait what?

'Gobber can I have that back, please? And I know Gobber, but I just can't stop worrying about him.' I say while drinking the last bit of my yak milk.

'Yes, I've seen that. But maybe he IS carried of by a dragon. And seen his size it would've happen sooner or later....' he said with a sad face.

'You're not really helping Gobber.' I responded a little angry.

The fact is I haven't told anyone about the letter, not even Gobber. when he asked why Hiccups was so empty and clean, I told him I cleaned it. But I'm not really sure if he believed me.

'Stoick your people really need you! There's probably a dragon raid again tonight. And you haven't even helped fixing houses after the last raid.' he said again with a sad face.

I sighed. 'I know, I have to be there for my people. So what's on the list foe today Gobber? '

'Uhm,  I don't know. I don't make the list and if I did, I hadn't expected that you have in so easily.' he said.

'O right, then I'm gonna go off to my usual round around the village.' I said and walked out of the house, leaving a dumbfounded Gobber.

When Gobber was giving me a lecture about that my people need me. I decided that I'll have to leave the past behind me, even if that means letting go of Hiccup.

A chief protects his own.
