Stumbling back, I felt my hands hit the railing behind me.
Frantic, I looked around for my mother and everyone else. But, once again I was in an empty stairway.
Alone.
With nothing but my thoughts surrounding me.
Taking one more frightful look around, I bolted. I wasn't sure what had just happened. But, I wanted no parts of it. All I wanted to do was find my room, lock the door and chill the heck out.
I needed to collect my wits and quickly.
As I reached the bottom of the stairs and started to reach for the door handle, I could swear that I was hearing voices on the other side of it.
Pausing and leaning a little closer towards the door, I knew without doubt that their were voices coming from the other side.
I wasn't sure if they were just walking by or planning on coming through this stairway.
Taking a step back, I contemplated what to do. Should I wait for them to pass? Or should I continue on my way? It's not like I was doing anything wrong. Granted, I probably wasn't where I was supposed to be. But, it's not like I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be, either.
Forget it, I'm going to my room. I needed to be alone before I screamed.
"...elambria arrived... ahead of schedule." I could feel my hand freeze halfway between the door.
Were they talking about me?
They had to be, right? Like who else had 'elambria' in their name? I shook my head. This school was forreal starting to weird me the heck out.
Pressing my ear to the door, I tried to focus on what was being said.
"We have to keep an eye on her!" One voice whispered aggressively.
"You don't think I know that!" The second voice snapped.
"But, the prophecy.." The first voice started.
"DON'T QUOTE THE PROPHECY TO ME. I remember it perfectly well, and you would do well to remember your place."
"Yes, yes." The voice whimpered.
"We will keep an eye on Selambria. She barely even knows who she is though, so I doubt she'll be that much trouble. Ronan will deal with her and if she doesn't well..." He chuckled.
"I'll be forced to get involved.."
"Yes, yes. You're right my lord. If Ronan knows anything, he should know failure is not an option." The second voice said in agreement as they both drifted away.
As their voice started to fade, I took a cautious step away from the door as if it had some sort of disease and was contagious.
A prophecy? What prophecy were they talking about?
And what did they mean by saying Ronan would deal with me?
That first voice had sounded so sinister.. I just knew if I had touched that doorknob, I would've been sucked into his emotions. I could feel the power radiating off of him. It had felt like it was oozing through the cracks of the door.
I hated being out of the loop.
First, my own mother wouldn't tell me about why she was pulling me out of PrayerView high, then Lyonna wouldn't answer any questions.. I mean, yeah, patience is a virtue and all.. and, yeah I eventually I got answers to most of the questions I had..
