Special Chapter: Summer Festival

"Fireworks? Sure," Kimi nodded, not showing a lot of expression, as usual. She was summarising the stats from their practice at the corner, when everyone approached her with the invitation to go to see fireworks together. The entire volleyball team were surprised she would agree to it so quickly.
"Eeh, the stone faced Nishikawa is finally showing interest into something huh?" Kuroo said.
"Is it so surprising seeing me wanting to go to a fireworks festival?"
"We just didn't think you'd be interested in gathering together watching fireworks. We thought we'd gonna have to drag you or something. Like Kenma!" Tora said.
"I'm not really interested in the fireworks though, but fireworks means festival. And festival means yakisoba, takoyaki and cotton candy. Going out with friends together is fine once in awhile, I guess."
Everyone looked at Kimi with teary eyes, "She called us friends!"
"Yakisoba means yukata?" Fukunaga asked Kimi. Kimi, who is already used to his antics, understood that Fukunaga is asking her if she's going to wear a yukata.
She smiled at Fukunaga, "You guys wear yours. I'll take a picture later. They look so stuffy though."
"Come on, you're the only girl in the club. You should dress up sometimes, Kimi!"
"It's not that I don't want to, it's more like I don't have one. Besides, even if I have one, no one can help me put it on."
"Really? I thought every girl would have at least one."
"I think the last time I put a yukata on was when i was 6 or 7. After that I never actually put one on. But you guys should do it."
"Nishikawa, should I ask my sister to help dress you up? She can even lend you a yukata!" Lev said.
"Ah, that sounds troublesome...I'll pass..."

In the end, no one could actually convince Kimi to dress up. She kept saying that it was too much. When she finally finished summarising their stats, even with the distractions from right and left, she ended the argument with "Well, we will see later."

[Day of Summer Festival]
[06.27 p.m.]
[Matatabi Park]
[Tokyo, Japan]

The Nekoma volleyball team members were gathered in front of small park, about 5 minutes walk from the festival. Everyone came in their yukata, even Kenma, because Kuroo spoiled it to his mom. Somewhat they all came earlier than they said they would, making Kimi the last to join, although she wasn't late.

"Woah, Ni-Nishikawa is that you?" Tamahiko, who was the first to spot Kimi, commented in awe.
Kimi came in a cute short sleeved striped playsuit, showing the skin and figure she usually hides behind her oversized clothes. She put on some light makeup and white sneakers.

All in all, her appearance still shows the utility and comfort Kimi always go for, but somehow it was still cute and impactful.
"C-cute," Shibayama blurted out unconsciously.
"Nishikawa is showing her skin..."
"Why is it 10 times more powerful when she shows her skin, compared to normal girls?"
"Well she's always wearing oversized clothes and hides her figure...Even with her school uniform, she's always wearing her vest or a hoodie on top..."
"Kimi doesn't dress up very often but when she actually does, it really does pack a punch, huh?" Sou laughed, while everyone agreed.
"Huh? Why is everyone already here? Am I late?"
"Nishikawa! You look like a girl today!" Lev grinned.
"I am...a girl...though?"
"So you do have a waistline," Kuroo snickered, Kimi landed a quick jab on his stomach, making Kuroo wince in pain.
"That was just plain rude, Kuro," Kenma commented.
"That's true, I thought you were fat! And I thought you don't like dressing up!" Lev continued.
"I don't really like it but...do you really expect me to be the party pooper each and every time?"
"You look cute, Kimi! Good job!" Yaku patted her head.
"Thank you, Yaku senpai," she smiled. The whole team blushed. Dressed up Kimi held another level of power when she smiles.

"Shall we go now?" Nobuyuki asked. They all nodded and started walking.

When they arrived, there were more people than they thought there would be. The festival was packed, and Yaku started worrying about his chaotic kouhais getting lost.
