6 years later

Jeff stood on the pier, looking out at the waves as the sun began to set.
His friends often told him that he was crazy to wait for a girl he would probably never see again. But he never lost faith.
And after 6 years of waiting, his patience was finally rewarded.
A note had been left in his flat, with a time and place on it.
The note had only been signed with the letter Y, but Jeff was certain that it was from Elise.

"I wasn't sure if you'd come".
Jeff spun around and saw a figure emerging from the shadows.
When the figure stepped under the light of the nearby streetlamp, Jeff saw her face.
Elise smiled back at Jeff, and after a moment of silence, they threw their arms around each other.
"I knew you'd come back" whispered Jeff.
"I wasn't sure if you really would wait for me, but here you are" replied Elise as the pair stepped apart.

"Last time I saw you, I promised that I'd wait a whole life time for you" reminded Jeff.
"That's true" admitted Elise.
"So, are you here to stay, or are you going to disappear on me again?" Asked Jeff.
"That depends"
"On?"
"On whether you want me to stay here with you"
"I would love nothing more than for you to stay with me. But only if you want to"
"Well, I've never lived with anyone before, not like this anyway. But I'd like to give it a go".

"So, you're going to stay here with me?" Questioned Jeff, not really believing what Elise was telling him.
Elise took hold of his hands and squeezed them tight, "I am not going anywhere".
"Does that mean you're not going to see your family again? Because I don't want you to have to give them up for me" admitted Jeff.
"I'm 29, I think I can survive without my family. Besides, my father's not the type to move on, so I expect I'll see him from time to time"
"And your brother?"
"He's old enough that he doesn't need me anymore. He has our father to watch over him. Which means that for the first time in my life, I am free to do as I like".
Jeff smiled and tucked a piece of Elise's hair behind her ear, "I like the sound of that".

Elise placed her finger on Jeff's lips, "Hold that thought".
She spun around and nodded her head, causing two figures that had been lurking in the shadows to turn and walk off back down the alleyway.
"Now, how about we get something to eat?" Suggested Elise as she turned back around to face Jeff.
"Sounds good to me" grinned Jeff.
Elise laced her arm through his, and the pair walked off into the sunset.
Despite her complicated past, for the first time in her life, Elise was looking forward, and not back. And she was excited to see what the future would bring.
