I was finally seventeen, but I didn’t really feel a year older. Then again, how exactly is seventeen supposed to feel? A part of me felt like the same, naïve girl from a year ago, but another part of me felt much older.

I sure had been through a lot. I shifted, I found out that Archer was my mate. I even lost my virginity. Needless to say, Archer made sure I wasn’t innocent anymore. That boy was the walking epitome of sex. Not that I necessarily minded; that boy was gifted in the sheets.

As much as Archer frustrated me, I loved him. He drove me wild, in just about every sense. I wouldn’t take him any other way, though.

I got up and took a shower. I slipped on a cute pastel colored dress. I let my hair down, slipping a headband in the natural messy curls. I put on some light makeup, and walked out into the kitchen, where Kat and Elsey were sitting with some red velvet cupcakes.

“Happy Birthday!” They yelled, and I laughed. It had been our tradition to sneak into each other’s houses on our birthdays and have a very unhealthy breakfast of sweets.

We sat down with our cupcakes, cookies, and ice cream, chowing down on the sweets.

“Is that a hickey?” Kat giggled.

“Probably, that boy is horrendous. He claims he has to mark his territory, but lord knows he’s already marked me for good,” I laughed.

“Seth’s the same way,” Elsey joked. Kat tried to hide her disappointment by picking at a cupcake. Some people didn’t find their mates until years after they transformed, heck, Archer had to wait two years. I just felt bad for Kat, having to be around Elsey and I while we were taking about our mates.

I picked up a cupcake and smeared the icing on Kat’s nose. She squealed and threw a lump of ice cream at me, but missed.

“Why do you have to be so damn loud?” Reese walked into the kitchen, wearing nothing but his boxers. His hair was a mess and he was obviously hung over.

He got some aspirin and a glass of water, not facing us. I rolled my eyes as Kat and Elsey watched the eye candy. To me, it was disgusting.

“Oh, Archer said something about being late. He said something about having to get some strawberries and whipped cream for the shortcake,” he shrugged, turning around. My cheeks burned red, knowing what Archer really meant. His eyes caught with Kat’s and he dropped his glass, it shattering across the floor.

He growled out, “MINE,” and yanked her into his bedroom before slamming the door.

“Do you want to go shopping?” Elsey asked me immediately after the door slammed. I was thankful she asked, because I really didn’t want to be home to hear my brother devour my best friend.

“Absolutely,” I said, grabbing a few cupcakes quickly and getting into her white Jeep. I ate them on the ride there.

“So, how awkward is it to have Kat be Reese’s mate?” she asked.

“It’s so awkward, but it’s good. She can finally get laid and loosen up because I feel like I’ve been walking on eggshells whenever I talk about Archer or anything mate related. Then there’s my brother, and thank God he’s got a girl and he’s going to settle down because the bitches he’s had recently I find myself wanting to murder,” I said.

“Archer’s rubbing off on you. Goodbye prim and proper Amity!” Elsey laughed.

“I can’t really help it. I literally can’t go hours without him. Or maybe it’s vice versa, God I don’t know.”
