"Stealing drones makes you hungry." Kie says as we pull up outside her parents restaurant in John B's van. We had all met up back after the scrap yard heist and stored the drone in a safe spot. It was not late and we were all starving and after discovering neith John B nor I had any eatable food at our places we all piled up in the hopes Kie's dad would let us have something.
"What I would do to a beer and shrimp and grits right now." JJ says getting out of the van.
"It would not be pretty." Pope says, following closely behind him
We walk in into the restaurant seeing Kies dad look at us disapprovingly// from behind the bar.
"Hey, Dad." Kie says
"Hey." He responds to her
"How'd we do?" Kie asks walking down alone side the counter as the rest of us following behind her.
"Didn't turn it over once." he says as he walks to meet Kie at the end of the counter.
"It's probably just bad luck because of the storm. " Kie says reaching out to give her dad a hug.
"Yeah, I'll be sure to tell the banks that." he says embracing her hug and resting his chin on her head.
We walk past Kie and her dad hugging, to the tables towards the back of the restaurant. Giving them some space.
" Guess now is not the best time to ask for free food for me and my friends? "Kie says to her dad pulling back and looking up at him with the smile she knows he can't often say no to.
Her dad sighs and looks over to us all standing in a group smiling trying to look innocent. "Look at them. They're greedy pelicans." Hes says to Kie.
"So hungry." John B whispers so only we can hear causing the boys to laugh slightly. "Shhh" I say smacking John B on the back of the head lightly.
"I told you to stop hanging around them." I hear Kies dad say not trying to hide the fact that he doesn't like us.
"Well, everybody at the Kook Academy hates me, Dad." Kie responds honestly, i know she has a hard time trying to fit in with them, she is so different to them in so many ways.
"Cause you never gave them a chance." Her dad responds not really understanding
"I did give them a chance. They got stuck up. They care more about shoes than surfing. What am I supposed to do with that? " Kie says, slightly raising her voice.
"These are my friends." Kie says looking back towards us.
Not knowing what to do and feeling now extremely awkward we all slightly smile and give small waves.
"Look. " Kies dad says before sighing. Well, I-- I got-- I gotta throw it out. Might as well take it."
"Thank you!" Kie says wrapping her arms out him pulling him in for a quick hug.
" You're welcome. I'll bring it out." he says returning to the kitchen.
"Sit down." Kie says to us as she walks over to us.
"Oh, yes!" JJ says as he rushes to take a set at an empty table the rest of us closely behind.
As soon as the food is brought out we all dig in not wanting to waste any time. We all mutter a thank you to Kie's dad as he drops the last lot of food off.
Kie gets up and starts dancing to the music playing in the background pointing at John B to get up and join her. We watch them for a little bit before I jump up and pull JJ up making him dance with me. At first he's a little skeptical probably because he's still mad about this morning but enental loosens up and starts having fun. We both share a look and rush over to Pope and drag him up and move his arms making him dance with us. It's not long before we are all dancing and having fun.
