Blank. I was completely blank while I gazed at him while he refused to. Although his diverted gaze was clearly to keep me from taking a look but the agony was so strongly visible that I saw it in a glance even when he was quick at averting it.
I felt like I was given a blow and it made me stagger that I had to clutch the closest thing I could see even if it was a wall. The blood drained from my face and I was gaping at the man who was standing like a stone figure with his emotions all schooled up to look indifferent and not like he'd just revealed something that could shake one up.
His eyes however were a totally in strangest land, there was a frenzy in them and mine were wide in shock at the revelation. I gasped and without any probing, his words kept replaying in my mind like a broken record.
His father. He said that my Jerdy is his father. Jerdy is Mia's and Gabriel's father... The person who's been like a guardian angel to me, was and is there for me every step of the way is in fact the father of this one person who has started being the world to me.
A murderer... Is that what Gabriel called him?
"No!" I said, scoffing. There is something wrong. This is definitely a bad dream I need to wake up from. His eyes shot from the ground to me at my reaction. Of all the conclusions I was coming to, this was nowhere close to what I could ever think of.
"This is wrong" I mumbled, raking my hand through my hair. What does he even mean, Jerdy cannot swat a fly and he is classifying him as a murderer. I clenched my eyes shut, thinking about everything that a span of few days had put forth.
Not only was the idea of him being Gabriel's father was enough that he had to add in another label.
This can't be true, I kept nudging myself. Out of all the things, Jerdy being a father to Gabriel was last that my mind could've gone to and least of all to what he is accusing him of.
"He... Jerdy is your father" I asked still in disbelief, just wanting him to reaffirm it to me over and over again. My limbs felt like they were locked, my eyes were wide and I was stupefied.
His eyes assessed my reaction and he instantly came closer to me looking at my lost state and gently kneeled in front of me as he guided me to take a seat at the bench that I hadn't noticed before.
When I looked at him, I saw that his guards were down and he was just gazing at me with so much vulnerability when he nodded, I gulped and shook my head. I inhaled a sharp breath, clenching my eyes shut. He collected my icy hands in his and gave them a gentle squeeze.
I realized how bad it was hurting him for his face was contorted in pain but I couldn't tell whether it was the news of him disclosing Jerdy as his father to me was the source of hurt or the shock that marred my face.
The warmth from his hands being extremely comforting and I held onto them in a vice grip when I peeled my lids open only to focus into his eyes that were attentively studying me.
