I got up early on New Year's Eve. I sat up in bed and looked at my clock, seven thirty. Only sixteen and a half hours until 1995 officially began.

A smile reached my face and I leapt out of bed. "Okay, list of things to do before 1995 begins," I started writing my list.

1. Beat my Snitch Record

2. Go into town to get the GOOD chocolate

3. At least write one letter

4. Convince Sirius to sneak me some Firewhiskey for New Year's

5. Don't drop the mission subject, get Dad to listen to me

"Sixteen hours," I smirked. "And that extra half hour."

I got dressed into a black sweater and khaki leggings and ran down the stairs. "Ooh, you're in a good mood," Sirius noticed my cheery self. "It's New Years! Of course I am!" I smiled. "Oh, yeah, Tia was telling me about your tradition, you make a list of things to do before midnight."

He held out his hand and I quickly gave him a high five, which made him laugh. "No, the list, let me see," he laughed. "Oh sorry," I chuckled and handed him the parchment. "Okay, number one, let's do that," Sirius got up. "And don't get stuck on the roof."

"I think Dad's mad at me," I sighed. "I got him to tell me more about Mum, someone's coming after me, Sirius, I know it. Dad refuses to listen to me, all he thinks about is....her."

"Well, she was his wife," Sirius pointed out. "That mission, it took a lot from him."

"It took a lot from me too," I pointed out. "It's not like I want to finish the mission, I just need some closure."

"Remus lost his wife, I get that, but James and Lily lost their best friend. Tatiana lost her sister, the only family she had! You lost your mother! Tia wants to know about this mission too and so do I, because if what you say is true...we need to hide the locket so they can't get their hands on it."

"Did I beat it," I panted as soon as I hit the ground with my broomstick. "You did, twenty seconds," Sirius smirked. "It's nine o'clock, one down, four to go."

"Well, the next two you have to be Padfoot and rule number one, stay where I can see you."

"I'm not wandering off, trust me," Sirius promised me and turned into Padfoot. "Tia! Dad! I'm going out!"

No response.

"With Sirius!"

Still nothing.

"To get a tramp stamp!"

Again, nothing.

I sighed heavily. Pip started whining. "Tia will walk you later," I told him. "You hate the cold anyway."

I left the locket in the drawer by the door. I opened the door and Padfoot followed me outside.

The two of us left the house, walked a while until we made it into the snow covered town of Gloucester.

"It's always so pretty during the winter," I said to Padfoot. "You cold?"

No, you?

I shook my head and stuffed my hands into my pockets. One thing I love about snow is the sound of it crunching under my boots. I looked over across the street to see some children building a big snowman. "No, we need the big carrot!"

"I gave it to Biggles."

What is a Biggles?

"Sounds like a bunny to me," I murmured. I opened the gate to the park and just as usual, the playground was empty.
