Lucky Discovery, Very Bad Luck

{Three Years Ago}

Three young girls were carefully lowered down into the depths of the cave, as they prepared to begin their exploration for their internships and their green clear beginnin', to become budding Paleontologists.

The oldest was 20 and was going down first. "I can't believe that we didn't do this sooner." The 18 year old who was the most calm of all of them said, as she moved down farther to pass her older friend.

"Kiana, dear. Can you remind me again, why we didn't?" Rachel asked and Kiana pulled a hammer from her belt, along with a small pick.

"Because we didn't have time to do any of it. I was and still am, expected back at the farm. You have an fiancee, to get home to. And, Deena has sisters and brother, to watch over. That is all of the reasons why." Kiana Griffin said to them, as she continues to lower her body into the cave, slowly.

"Hey, you guys! I think that I may have just found that Carnotaurus Rex skull that we were lookin' for!" Deena said and Kiana looked up, and there it was.

"Just be careful around here. The caves aren't very stable around these parts." Kiana wisely stated to them all, as she began a very, slow and cautious ascent, back up to the skull.

She began very gently hammering at the dirt wall at first, but then it began to get steadily harder for her to only a bit, just hammer out gently.

So she kept hammering, pushing steadily harder, until she felt the pick catch on something small. She put the pick into her belt loops and she began to pry at it with her right hand, wipin' at the dirt after she had scraped it off.

She finally held a small object in her hand, an orange gem of sorts and her friends oohed and awed over it.

Then they heard rumbling around them, as the cavern began to shake all around the three of them, as Kiana looks up.

"Go! Go! Go! Go!" She shouted at Deena and Rachel, and suddenly, they were completely forgetting all about caution, they were climbing up the walls like they were going through hell with the god of hell, Hades on their tails.

Kiana grabbed Deena and wrapped her arms around her as a rock came down and hit where she had just been seconds earlier.

Deena's eyes widened at Kiana, who looked at the harnesses around them all and now, she remembered that the three of them were connected.

"No! Kiana, don't!" Deena begged her as Kiana pulled out a knife from their belts and Deena began to scream for a person to help them as Kiana looks up at Rachel.

"Get yourselves to safety, and don't look back." She said, staring up into her best friend's eyes, and then, when she realized what her friend was doin' to save them all, Rachel nods, her eyes beginning to run with tears.

Rachel grabbed Deena and began to drag her up the wall of the cave, and the boulders, the rocks and the earth, it continued to fall into the cave.

Once they made it to the top, Kiana slashed at the harnesses binding them all together with the knife. She cursed as the rocks continued to fall.

"Come on!" Deena screamed as Kiana's curses were being shouted over the falling rocks, as the cave was caving in around her.

Rachel had realized now, that there was no way that the knife would cut through the thick leather of their big harnesses, and by the look on Kiana's face, she had reached the same thing.

Rachel unbuckled both herself and Deena, just as Deena threw herself to the edge of the hole, and it was just as Kiana was hit with everythin' that had fallen in.

She fell off of the wall and she dimly heard Deena and Rachel cryin' out for her. But, her attention was focused on the orange gem-like thing in her hand, as it had begun to glow.

She felt a weird sensation spreading all throughout her body and thought dimly, that she had hallucinated, that she had heard the roars of the legend dinosaur, a Carnotaurus Rex.

That was... until she smashed down hard onto the ground in the bottom of the cave, buried under tons of rocks and debris.

That's when everything finally went black, as Kiana gave into the pain that was now spread through the entirety of her body.
