The Tale of Empress Hua

十二 ~ twelve

"How long until we arrive" I said with a smile on my face. "Soon" he replied with the same smile. I was very excited and I couldn't wait to see them.

I waited in silence thinking of what I will say to them. I had so much to tell them that I didn't even know where to start. "We're here" Huang knocked on my window. He held out his hand and helped me out. "Are you nervous? Or maybe excited?" He smiled. "Both" I giggled.

I slowly walked to the door of the little cottage. I remember my brother and I running around and playing here. I stood in front of the door and took a deep breath. I knocked lightly and the door flung open. I saw my granny standing there. She looked a lot older. "Granny.." a tear rolled down my cheek. "Jingfei?" She questioned. I suddenly hugged her tightly. I never wanted to let go. Now tears were flowing down my cheeks.

She invited me in while the guards were waiting outside. I sat down at the table and she gave me a cup with tea in it. "Jingfei where have you been, we missed you so much, we thought you died like your brother and mother" granny spoke first. "I'm sorry, I couldn't leave the palace, after mother and Jianyu were killed, I was living with the maids and I guess I was invisible until now" I paused and took a sip of the tea. "I became the queen" I continued. Their shocked faces were looking at me. Granny bursted into tears "The heavens gave us a wonderful gift" she held my hands in hers.

"Granny, grandad" I held granny's hands now. "I'm sorry to disappoint but I don't want to be the queen" I looked at them and soon their happy faces turned into a frown. "Jingfei, why? That's one of the best things that could happen" she let go of my hands now. "Because I love someone else" I looked down. "I'm also planning to run away with him" I continued. Their eyes widened. "Jingfei, you know what will happen if you run away you will get killed" my grandad said with a worried look. "That's if someone finds us, no one will" I replied. "Jingfei, please don't, we don't want anything happening to you" granny's face also had a worried look. "I'm sorry but I have to, that's the only way, one day I will come back please don't worry" I ended the topic.

After it got dark it was time for me to leave. I hugged my grandparents tightly once again. I didn't know when I will see them again. As I was getting into the litter I waved goodbye one more time.

Huang knocked on my window. I opened it. "So how did it go" he asked. "It went well, I told them everything, even you" I smiled. "That's good" he replied. I tugged on his sleeve. "I told them that we are running away together" I whispered. "What did they say" his eyes widened a little. "They said don't, but I'm not happy in the palace" I kept whispering.

Suddenly I heard a loud shout outside. "Huh what's going on" I raised my voice. "Jingfei stay in the litter" Huang ordered. "Huang! What's going on!?" I started to shout. He closed the window. I heard grunts and swords clashing. I peeked my head out.

At that exact moment I saw Huang getting stabbed in the chest. "HUANG!" I shrieked. I got out of the litter and ran over to him. "Huang! Huang!!!!" I kept shouting his name. He fell to the ground and I fell on my knees. I lifted his head. "Huang! It's okay, it will be okay" tears were flowing down my cheeks. "Jingfei...." He opened his eyes. "Huang stay with me please" I kept repeating. "I love you" a few tears rolled down his cheeks. "Nooo, Huang stop, stay with me please" My voice started to tremble.

He leaned in and kissed me once more before his eyes closed. "HUANG! HUANG!!" I shrieked. I held him close to my chest and let my tears fall. "I love you too"

I'm sorry that it's a sad and short chapter buuuuut the story is coming to an end soon :)
I'm going to post the final few chapters after a couple of days
Also I apologise for being very inactive but school started again :(((( one last thing follow me on wattpad for more stories!!!! I have a lot more ideas so there definitely will be more!!!
