PoV: Shadow

"Sonic, where is this ship taking us?" I looked at him. Sonic had a smile on his face.

"You know the mission. Retrieve the generator that was lost in the lake nearby. We'll need to do some acting to get it," Sonic began to remove his uniform, undressing completely.

"Sonic. Where did you dissapeared to yesterday?" I glared at him, for once he seemed unphased by it.

"I thought you listened to my boring stories you force me to tell all the time," he changed his black sneakers to the old red ones he once wore. I never thought I'd see him in those again.

  His stories. Retrieving a generator.

"We're going to Knothole," I watched as he tied a brown scarf around his neck. He looked just like he did before he changed.

"We are. And they don't know about our little secret, so try an act like a good guy. But I guess that impossible for you~" his feeble attempts at teasing me had no effect. I still needed to punish him for disobeying me. But I needed to do it in a way where he wouldn't feel pleasure.

"Are you done changing?" I asked.

"Hmph," he was ignoring me. This immature brat is starting to piss me off.

"What the hell is your problem now?" I growled.

"Shadow, lets be friends! We can beat Eggman together! Let's race later!" He was suddenly cheerful with a biggest smile.

"What the hell are you doing."

"Getting into character."

"Its creepy."

"You're the one who's creepy," he sat back down and began mumbling to himself, "I have to be a hero again. It feels gross... helping people who don't give two shits about you. What the hell was the point for so long..."

"Sonic, what are you planning?" I had to know, even if Sonic said nothing specific about it, I could get some clues.

"You already know that," he gazed out the window as the ship continued moving, "I want to rule the world with you at my side."

"I told you to drop that idea. We serve Eggman, no one else," the ship stopped and Sonic stood up.

"We're here," he dusted himself off, "You can come out when you're ready, but you'll miss out on the secret entrance."

I quietly followed him out of the ship. Sonic walked a fair distance until we reached a bush. He pushed it aside revealing a log.

"So, this is the entrance?" I looked around for any hidden mechanism he might try.

"Yes. Bye Shadow~" he jumped into the log and disappeared.

"A child's hideout," I climbed down and discovered the log was a slide. I landed in a pile of hay at the bottom. Sonic was currently pulling pieces of hay from his quills. I was lucky to not have as much of a mess to clean up.

"Sonic... you came back!" Someone had already noticed us.

"Rooter! Good to see you!" Sonic's personality had a complete switch. He was back to the way he once was. He was a talented actor. But it made me concerned. He couldn't be acting to play the villain. I'm getting more paranoid than I need to be. Sonic had done more than enough to prove he's on our side. Still... I won't throw caution to the wind just yet.

"Shadow, hurry up slowpoke!" Sonic waved to me.

"Who do you think you're calling slow," I followed them.

"Why did you bring him along?" The purple walrus asked as we all walked through the area.

This was knothole. Hand made huts were everywhere. As well as mobians.

"Heya Sal!" Sonic ran up to Sally Acorn. I had seen her a few times before.

"Sonic... you didn't send me a letter that you were coming," she smiled the moment she saw him.

"Sorry about that. I know this is kinda sudden. The gang and I have been having a lot of trouble with Eggman. He's taken over cities with his knew weapon," Sonic's lies were flawless. He was so calm and collected. It would be hard to know what he had become the way he was acting now.

"I heard. I've battled in a few cities myself, but no knows what the new weapon is," she hadn't seen Sonic in battle. Here, it was a clean slate for him.

"Is the old power ring generator still in the lake?" He asked so calmly.

"Yeah, but the power stone is completely drained," Sally had answered him without hesitation.

  A talent I didn't know he had.

"That's fine. Tails just want to review how the machine works. He just might be able to build a new model to help us win this before it's too late," Sonic gave Sally a tight hug, "Keep me updated when you can Sal!"

Sonic took off in seconds, I went along with him. We arrived at a lake that was on the outskirts of knothole.

"So the generator is the one your uncle made to give you power rings," I watched as Sonic gazed into the lake.

"It is. And we're getting it for Tails. But first, I need to get it out of the bottom of the lake," Sonic looked around, "Shadow, go see if Rooter has a crane or something."

"You ran here without a plan," I sighed and walked away. He had no ability to swim. And no one could lift anything heavy below water. He's still an idiot, even as a villain.

PoV: Sonic

Shadow was out of sight, I could finally do things the way I wanted.

"Now, let's get you out of the water," I stood as close to the water as I could without risk of falling.

I looked around, ensuring that I was completely alone. Good.

"Kaosuchēn~"
