He grabbed the phone, stepped out of his car, answer the call with his right hand while slamming the car's door with his left.
"Where are you, bro?" narinig niyang wika ni Anton sa kabilang linya. Kaibigan niya ito since college.
"Andito ako sa site. Dumaan lang ako saglit," aniya.
He was walking towards the building.
"What? Nandiyan ka pa? May balak ka ba talagang humabol?" ani Anton.
He was supposed to meet up with some college friends. He was on his way there when he realized na naiwan niya 'yong isang bag niya sa site. And he needed some important files on it tonight kaya kailangan niya itong balikan.
He chuckled. "Oo naman. May nakalimutan lang ako. I'll be quick. Ten more minutes and I'll be there.
"Alright, alright, I'm coming," he said to end the convo.
"Gotta go," he added before he dropped the call.
Some workers prefer night shift, too, kasi 'di mainit.
"Architect!
He grabbed his bag and was about to leave the area when he heard some noise.
Parang may sumigaw. Boses babae.
Natigil siya sa ginagawang paghakbang. Nakiramdam siya.
But then he heard nothing but the noise coming from the ongoing construction below kaya naisip niyang guni-guni lang niya iyon. He was about to take another step when he heard the voice again. Louder this time.
His breathing went ragged. And no, hindi iyon dahil sa takot. It's more of excitement actually.
That's why he was convinced that ghosts don't exist.
He had this penchant for police/detective flicks.
The thought that something's going on caused an adrenaline rush in him. His imagination went wild, papano kung may pinagtatangkaang gahasain sa taas? At 'yong babaeng narinig niya kanina, what if she's asking for help?
He stopped the moment he reached the third floor. Muli siyang nakiramdam.
He's not a blackbelter in taekwondo for nothing.
With careful steps he began to search the area. He couldn't hear the woman's voice this time kaya hindi niya alam kung saan ito naroroon. Patuloy siyang nakiramdam.
Then he heard it again. Louder this time. Closer.
And no, she's no longer screaming. She was crying.
Then he saw her. He saw a woman's silhouette standing on the edge of the building.
He didn't get any reply from her. Patuloy lang ito sa paghagulhol.
Muli ay tinablan siya ng takot. For a split second he was convinced that it was Tanya.
"T-Tanya?" The word escaped his mouth before he realized it.
He no longer wanted to approach her.
"Wala kang kuwentang tao! Manluluko ka!" she screamed.
Then to his horror, nakita niya itong umakyat sa hanggang bewang na harang.
It didn't take him long to realized that nope, she's not a ghost. And that she's about to do something really stupid.
He grabbed her by the waist and pulled her down.
The woman shrieked and wriggled away from his arms.
"Let me go, you maniac!" ang sigaw nito habang nagpupumiglas mula sa kanyang mga kamay.
She was drunk, he realized. Amoy alak kasi ito.
"Please stop! Stop! I won't hurt you!" aniya habang pilit itong pinapakalma.
"Let me go, you pervert! TULONG! TULUNGAN NI'YO AKOOO! HELP!" Nag-echo ang sigaw nito sa palibot.
He was still trying to calm her down when he heard hurried footsteps.
"I have no f*ckin' idea," Zach said as he cover her mouth with his hand to shut her up.
He growled at her.
And it worked! She stopped wriggling at once.
